Charleston Southern and Florida Atlantic, I hope he gets to play a bit. He's earned it, and I'd like to feel good (and have Helms feel good) about playing if Cade had to come out in the middle of the season or later.

You mean the same way these troll posts keep backfiring on you?
If this goes as planned, CV will be the first highly ranked QB to redshirt at Clemson in recent memory. Why in the world would this affect any future QB recruits? Sounds like CV is all in on the plan. Every player is different. What works for one may not for another. KJ Henry redshirted his first year and that certainly hasn’t had a negative effect on our ability to recruit elite DEs, has it?

I’m sure that other schools will be reminding future elite QBs that if they come to Clemson they might have to sit behind a walk-on and redshirt.
I hope that doesn’t keep us from getting the QBs we want.

I’ll ask again, slower this time so maybe you can follow, did redshirting 5 star DE KJ Henry keep us from getting other 5 star DEs since then??
How can you be sure other schools will say that? Do you participate in recruiting for other schools?

Most elite QBs won’t want to come in and redshirt their first year.
So, you would rather Clemson and CV lose that year of eligibility? Why would you want that?
Wants versus needs my fellow tigernet poster!
If Helms has changed his body and looks as good as they are saying in camp; "I for one like the prospect of having a 5-star QB waiting in the wings saving their eligibility"!

Of course I don’t want Vizzina to lose a year of eligibility.

I want Vizzina to be better than a former walk-on, make it known that he’s the #2 QB on this team, get to play in every game this year, and learn and improve so he is ready when needed.
I want him to be so good that we can’t keep him off of the field.
But it’s clear that he needs more time. It happens. But if he’s as good as advertised, the chances of him being here for five years are pretty slim.
So my preference is to play him, because there are no guarantees that redshirting him helps us down the road.

Arch Manning is #3 at Texas and he was the can't miss prospect for QBs. He may redshirt as well. Will not hurt us if a kid is ready to play they will play.

I've always hoped they'd be able to redshirt Vizzina with Cade being here another one possibly 2 years. So much better than having him transfer.

So we are unable to successfully recruit QBs currently because Vizzina is so good, yet he is going to redshirt this season because he cant beat out a journeyman nobody for backup? Those two things do not jibe.

Yeah in recruiting, I missed the part where he was only 17. We just got used to thinking of having qbs for 3 years. Still, not sure That redshirt buys us anything. If he turns into a championship level qb, he'll be gone in 4 years. Either to the NFL or transfer.

No need to be a ####### and crap on Hunter. He played well on Saturday and is experienced and talented. He's not a "journeyman nobody" just because he was a walk-on. So was Renfrow. And Etienne was a 3 star like him and became our greatest running back of all time.
But I have said it's stupid to say recruits are scared to come here when Alabama and Texas continue to sign elite prospects despite being loaded at QB. I mean, Texas's third string QB is maybe the most hyped up recruit in the past 30 years, and they're still in the hunt for blue chip QBs in 2024.

and win 50/50 balls then the stink eye will be on Grisham. Remember what happened to Streeter. Other than the D's the receiving corp needs a massive improvement.

I was walking around the stadium trying to find a cooler spot Sat and was standing under the scoreboard. Struck up a conversation with a guy as he seemed pretty interested in what was going on. After about 30 minutes he tells me he is Hunter Helms brother. The guy went to SC so I could not get a feel if he pulls for Clemson or just there to watch his brother. It was pretty cool to get a little background on their family. Hunter loves it at Clemson.

Question on Helms. Could he end up being good enough to start his final year. Some teams have had success with older quarterbacks. Is that a possibility for Helms?

IMO, and not knocking Hunter, the answer is 100% no chance. With that said, I'm happy for him and his progress.

Deciding now to redshirt Vizzina is a bit surprising.

The coaches must either really like Helms, or feel like Vizzina isn’t close to being ready. Or a combination of the two.

Probably a little of both. But remember a red shirt can be taken off at any time. Redshirting isn’t the same as it used to be. He can play in 4 games. This is great for a 17 year old kid that is younger than most in his class. Dabo has said at least twice that they “hope” to redshirt CV. Read his comments again. Nothing is cast in stone.
“We hope we can redshirt him if it all works out,” Swinney said. “Play him four games, get him some experience. But there’s a lot of factors that gotta go into that, what happens with (Cade) Klubnik and staying healthy and all that.

I thought Hunter was doing a good job Sat. Hard to tell much in those scrimmages but I was thinking he would definitely be capable of playing if needed.

IMO after Sat I would have definitely gave it to Helms over Vizzina. Not knocking the freshman but he just got on campus a few months ago.

It's not surprising at all. If you have two blue chip quarterbacks, one will transfer if their careers overlap. If Vizzina redshirts, they only have one effective year of overlap (assuming Klubnik leaves early), and then you have two full years for Visions afterwards. If Vizzina can't redshirt, you have a real problem.

Hunter Helms is an underrated back-up who was invited to the Manning QB camp. If CV is mature enough to be willing to redshirt, having Helms as the back-up puts us in a perfect position. We get to the playoffs 2-3 times with Klubnik and then 2-3 times with CV, and then maybe we have McIntyre to follow afterward.
