Captain Obvious!

Clemson has the talent and ability to correct all our issues and get better.

So, let’s do it!

Sure hope that wasn’t his takeaway from watching the film. Man that was a disappointing finish

I'll give him credit, at least he can admit it,

Thank you Wes. Can you make sure that your offensive counterpart understands that same concept?

Thank you.

This is where me miss leaders like Ben Boulware and James Skalski. Those guys weren’t the most physically talented, but they played with a determination to win EVERY single play - and they demanded everyone around them on the field do the same. I’m not seeing that kind of leader on the field right now.

Agree. Right now, though, we are a little more like dolphins. Kinda just playful with our opponents.

Someone beat me to it, but we are missing a cold blooded predator on the field like Skalski and Boulware. Someone who doesn’t know anything but the mission and has a throttle stuck open and no brakes. Every team needs that Alpha that coaches need to work to reign in, not a whole bunch of guys they have to convince to stay in the gas.

Hard to be a Tiger when the coach is a mouse

From my perspective.

He's right. Good defenses tend to let up with a lead. Great defenses don't let up. Elite defenses start the game with a killer instinct and see how fast they can pound the offense into submission. Then when the offense quits, they keep pounding.

I got the above from a guy who played at FSU during the 90s when their defenses were always among the elite in the country. (Mickey Andrews was easily the most respected DC in the country.) I asked him how could the team, especially the D, stay focused when they were playing a game against a Duke or Wake and they knew the score would be 62-3 or something like that. He said, "We loved those games. We wanted to see how fast we could get off the field and let the second and third team play. And, Mickey would tolerate nothing less. We had great athletes at every position and we all knew that if we let off, even a little, someone else would move ahead of us. The defense was taught, "If they don't score, we win." That was the goal. If they don't get into FG range, they can't score. If they don't get across the 50, they can't get into FG range. If they don't get a first down, they can't cross the 50. And, after the ball was turned over by the offense Mickey taught us, "A 3 and out" takes away all their momentum."

It was a mindset as much as it was physical. And, it started with the coaches. The coaches had that mindset. And, somehow, they instilled it into the players. And, the older players instilled it into the younger players.

Starting in 1993, every time the football team held the opponent scoreless the assistant baseball coach at FSU would present a baseball with a spike driven through it to the defense at practice on Monday after the game.

Maybe Wes and company can begin instilling that mindset into the players.

Well said Bret! You’ve got a tough team. I know you were proud of their fight last night.

Clemson Defenses manhood is at question. How can you be elite when you're this soft? The defensive leaderships needs to be more savage and less beta.

Goodwin is clearly in over his head. He has no clue how to stem a tide when the defense is reeling . Let’s hope he grows into that role quickly as we know he is not going any where .

Was Bressee having trouble running, because he is not in shape after all his grief period and sickness? I watched him chasing the ball and he looked like he was struggling a bit. I hope he gets completely well and doesn't have problems this game and further into the season. He is such a great player when he is completely well.
