He is a good pick up. Great speed, great hands and a nose for the ball, after a year in the Batson program and the training table, we will see him compete for playing time. Remember the name Oliver.

You must be new to recruiting. Since the ratings system began, players have been bumped up when certain schools offer or the player commits to a school. Typically it was true for the blue blood schools like Bama or Ohio st. Now Clemson gets the same benefit.

Yeah, he's new...

I think he's mainly into fishing. Only been following Clemson sports for a couple of years.

An offer this late in the recruiting period, to a player with his sheet, is not common and at this point the * bump is blatantly honorary; despite your defensive, knee-jerk declaration to the contrary-

Ha ha Flying Tiger and jstone D329 ... you missed the tongue in cheek parody of striper's post.

(I'm not cutting either of you down; I miss the clever intent of many posts.)

It’s happened to other targets/commits too. In the 2023 class Moussa Kane, out of NJ, was given a 3 star rating after receiving an offer and camping with us. In the 2021 class, I believe Bubba Chandler was bumped up to a 3 star from a 2 star or unrated when he received an offer and commuted to Clemson

Dabo is looking for smart players that can learn how to play for Clemson, and graduate. Genuinely glad he committed!

One of the best football players I ever saw in SC, could not graduate from High School.
Ended up in Junior College (special admit), both Ohio State and Oklahoma (among others) wanted him, but he could not pass in class.
Flunked out after first semester (great on the field).
He also had problems remembering plays, etc.... Would never have made it at Clemson, Clowney, etc....

Dabo recruits players that have the brains and talent to develop, and then develops them. Take a look at Kendrick, if not for Clemson he would have been on the streets or in jail, and he realizes that now! I hope he does well.

This Cornerback and many other Clemson 3 Stars have turned into fantastic Clemson TEAM players, and often get a shot at the pros. Grady Jarrett and Hunter Renfrow are a couple of development players that did great in school and on the field. Stupid players and dumb plays / penalties cost their teams games and don't win championships. Dabo knows exactly what he is doing, and does not offer players based on STARS that can't be successful at Clemson.

It's just feeling but it's a very good feeling, I think Myles Oliver, Cole Turner Nd the return of Hunter Johnson are all really good gets for Clemson football. Both Myles and Cole are said to have great speed. I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised with both kids. With HJ in the qb room can only be a plus with his expierence he will surely help Streeter is going to need a lot of help with DJ. What is Tajh's job description? And with the other qb's on the staff, Dj is going to have to start applying some of his coaching or pick up a clip board. The staff really needs to put him on a nutrition program and keep him in schoo; over the summer to work a summer program on the practice field and in the weight room.

After watching his highlight film, I was wondering, why wasn't this guy a 3 or 4 star before we started looking at him. Looks to me like he's a player for sure. Looks long, fast and seems to me like he likes to hit. Just curious....

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Everyone likes to hit. That's part of the problem . . .

Jan 21, 2022, 9:32 AM

we need players that want to tackle. If they hit along the way, fine, but all this "hitting" and rushing to celebrate or stand astride the downed ball carrier is getting old.

I have a feeling that this guy and others are just further proof that the ranking and star rating system is biased towards those kids that hit all the camps. This guy produced at a pretty high level of HS football and was not rated a month ago. SMH. I think this is the kind of guy like Wallace or Tankersly that in his Junior year or so will be an Excellent player.

Wholeheartedly agree. He needs to put on some good weight but looks like a baller

jarheadtiger®, you've demonstrated how the hammer is supposed to hit the nail. Recruiting services are front-runners. They are smart enough to know that when big time programs offer an under-rated HS kid, that the under-rated HS kid typically has genuine potential to be good.

For recent examples of 'low rated' DB recruits, Cody Sensabaugh, TJ Green, and Nolan Turner jump out. All three of these guys were legitimate stars in college (and Sensabaugh and Green got NFL paychecks).

Cause it was the best offer he had.***

We need guys like this that are happy to be here and willing to watch and learn for a couple of years before seeing much playing time. A guy like this could develop into a starter as a Jr or Sr and make a difference. He just needs to be willing to work hard and wait his turn.
