I’m worried we are only gonna have Riley for 1 or 2 seasons and then he’ll be off to another opportunity. But, man, it really could be a bigger dynasty than before if he stays for a good while. The best is yet to come would ring true.

Riley absolutely seems like the guy. Love the idea of changing the playbook, but using not as many plays. It's less confusing to kids and helps the players know where to be and when. Like Bruce Lee said: “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who had practiced one kick 10,000 times.”

Most people don't realize that Andy Reid only runs about 10-15 different plays in his west coast offense each year. He just adjusts what those plays are every season.

They had only a few offensive sets with various options but they relentlessly practiced them and ruthlessly executed during games. The defense never knew what play was coming because the setup was nearly always the same but there were varied options they had to be on the lookout for. Add in a sprinkling of tempo and defenses were ready to quit by mid-3rd quarter.

Yeah we’ve been missing a great OC since Morris left, regardless of what our talent disguised there for a while. Would probably have 1 or 2 more nattys in the case if he hadn’t left. And maybe he’d have had a better career since also.

Great O coordinators find a way to get players in space. They also find 10 or so easy chunck plays per game. We have missed that the last few seasons.

Yes yes. We have missed the easy chunk plays. Last two years everything looked like and was a struggle. Hope we find our offensive swagger again this year

I like the philosophy to be great at less plays, so we can execute better and be successful. Though a different era it worked well for Vince Lombardi. Execution is still key.

That’s exactly how LSU beat us in 2019 for the National Championship, they had that offense down to a science. If we would have had a few more DT’s we would have beat them even with that.

Burrow had the timing & passes down to a science, they just ran them to perfection over & over & got better as the season progressed.

Many years ago the infamous Woody Boxing Hayes had this to say about practice. Paraphrasing, even if they only learn one thing, but one thing well it's a good practice.

My only remark about this is:

1

Mar 10, 2023, 8:09 PM

I watched the TCU offense in last seasons playoffs and I really liked what I saw with their offense. It was very obvious that this TCU team was prepared to play big boy football. I had no idea at the time who their coaching staff consisted of but they had their guys ready to go from the opening kickoff. I’m sure Riley had a lot to do with what
I was admiring. Now he is at Clemson and I suspect that the guys he is currently working with are at least equal to the talent he had in Texas. I cam wait to see him “running down the Hill”!

2023 football in the Valley will be special. I promise. Get your tickets ordered and be a big part of this transformation.
Back to the TOP. Can’t wait.
