What Dabo in this interview, is what he does when even asked questions as these, he throws up a cloud of dust, speaks his words when the dust is thickest and move on to, next question.

Dabo has never lost his ability with the words saying a lot, and not meaning much of anything. I sure hope he still has the drive that he had when he was named as the head FB coach at Clemson, and hasn't forgotten how to assemble all the pieces together, and create another championship FB team. I'm not talking about just a state champion, or an ACC champion, I'm talking about the pieces that it takes to win another National Championship. Even Pitt can put together a ACC champion that the feeling of winning that only last a few months, but a Natty win feelings can last for a few years!!!!

The old Tommy Bowden, 1-play-away excuse. UGA wasn't 1-play

Dec 28, 2021, 4:35 PM

IIRC, at the end of the game UGA drove down the field and mercifully took a few knees instead of scoring a TD or kicking a FG. Not exactly a few plays away.

Clemson had a good year. No need to reboot the Tommy Bowden excuse-making about being a few plays-away from beating somebody. They were also a few plays away from beating us worse (like NCSU or UGA missing chip-shot FGs) and other opponents could say that they were a few plays away from beating Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, BC, GT, and Syracuse all right there at the end.***

That’s just Dabo though.

He is consistent with that anytime things go bad or we lose. I don’t think he’s using it as an excuse or trying to sugar coat it he see’s it as if we executed these plays the way they meant we would have won. Remember when we lost to Jameis and FSU embarrassingly and Dabo said we would beat them 5 out of 10 times. And I agree with him this year. The Pitt game for example. He had three wide open touchdowns that were missed and two would have happened if we had any other QB in all of power 5 football than DJ. We score those 3 times it’s like when we beat wake and people are saying things are fixed and it’s a completely different season.

Not to kiss up to Dabo, Razzmatazz, but the loss to UGA was on the basis of a very few plays.

Pick-6 ... that's an obvious one. If no pick-6, then maybe Clemson makes a first down, maybe we punt again and UGA doesn't score a TD (which are two likely outcomes), then a different ball game. 7 points removed from UGA's score.

Clemson going for it inside the UGA 10 on 4th down ... pass was incomplete. That's a second one. We score a TD, then a different ball game. 7 points added to Clemson's score.

UGA goes for the FG instead of taking the knee at end of game (likely outcome if the game was tied at the time) ... That probably would have happened and added 3 points to UGA's final score.

There you have it ... 3 plays that made the difference in the UGA game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Meh... It goes BOTH ways. UGA missed 36 yarder, knelt @CU 12

Dec 29, 2021, 11:07 AM

I'm sure Kirby Smart could point to several plays whereby they could have beaten us worse. Off the top of my head..
* UGA missed a 36-yard field goal to start the 2nd quarter.
* UGA missed 2 TD passes from inside our 8 yard line.
* UGA also threw an interception on a promising drive.
* UGA's final 10-play drive, ended at our 12-yard line with a knee. That's ~7 plays away from giving Clemson a shot to win the game. They coulda had at least a FG if needed.

GT, BC, Cuse, Louisville... ALL won by 6 points or less. I'm sure their head coaches could point to a handful of plays that cost them the game. That's football.

Just because you are being willfully blind doesn't make your belief true.

DJ clearly got better throughout the year (much better) ... admittedly he had a LONG LONG ways to go from his very early season performances. But he got substantially better, and is now playing much better than early in 2021 season despite what appears to be either a busted index finger or one that is terribly sprained (which seriously impacts the ability to be consistently accurate).

Oh yeah, and with O-Line and WR corp performing much better late in the year, it's almost magical (OK, not really ... it's common knowledge) that the QB always looks better when the O-Line blocks and the WR's catch the easy passes.

If you watch Clemson football and pay attention instead of being married to a comfortable (but false) narrative so that you can appeal to the know-nothing posters on TNet, then you can learn something about football.

Your narrative is the false one. Stats, especially the month-by-month splits, prove that.

If I called you and your boyfriend out in public as being ugly, then I'd be a jerk.

But I'm not doing that.

You on the other hand have snidely remarked that Clemson didn't have a CFP caliber season and are posting to show your disdain.

You belong with the S.Carolina gamecrooks and their legions of snide losers.

The difference between you clowns and Dabo is Dabo likes to see things with a positive outlook. While you guys are focusing on the negative that’s all you will see.

The team that finished the year is not a 3rd in the Atlantic

Dec 28, 2021, 6:22 PM [ in reply to Yep, started the year #3 and finished 3rd in the Atlantic... ]

Team. I know they earned that through the year but before the break if we played anyone in the ACC we win easily. I say we would have beat Georgia with the way they were playing. Those tubs of lard on the Dline they have made their money early in the year and they quit trying. DJ would not have any of the pressure he had game 1 if they played again. And the poll rankings were all a game to keep Clemson out as long as possible because the media and some of the coaches hate Clemson and or Dabo that much.

I hope they carry the momentum from the last games into tomorrow night and wipe the floor with Iowa St. DJ might roll in looking like Santa too who knows who will show up. Hopefully Dabo kept him working and training during the break.

GA was this year’s Ocry0 St. their total focus was on beating Clemson that first game. Whatever else happens that made their season. Bama will roll them (again) just like they did Ocry0 St last year. Clemson is the mountain everyone wants to climb.

I hate social media and I hope Dabo doesn’t read all this crap on here of just a few out of hundreds of thousands that support him and Clemson. I never thought I’d see the day when y’all wouldn’t be happy with a 9-3 year maybe a10-3 year but some of y’all have gotten spoiled and need to go back and look at some tapes of Clemson before Dabo was coach and I promise if he leaves we will go down real fast look at FSU

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: "Elaborate" is the word of the day, Swinney says program is in great shape

Dec 29, 2021, 4:50 PM

There are positives, but no salesman focuses on the negatives, and Dabo is a salesman.

The biggest negative is loss of aura, which translates into diminished talent coming through the door from high schools around the country. We have lost a chunk of talent in the past few months as committed recruits have sensed the program is heading downward and then torn up the contract, and some on the fence have jumped off it and gone elsewhere. That places a lower ceiling on overall future program potential.

Just look at Alabama or Georgia or Ohio State. The difference maker is not facilities or fan base or coaching. It is recruiting, which is any program's life blood. A very strong 2022 season will renew some of the aura, but an average (9-10 wn) season in an average Power 5 Conference will lower the ceiling even more.

So results in 2022 will be critical. That full season outcome, if good, will make the 2021 season into an anomaly. If bad, 2021 will be viewed as having been a harbinger of an accelerating downward drift. FSU and Miami are cautionary tales, with the downward spin hard to reverse. What has happened to them could happen here. No program is exempt from that risk.
