Randall has yet to impress me, but I’m hoping it is just because of his ACL and DJ’s ineffectiveness.

Antonio has a chance to be special. Really can’t wait to see how he progresses.

Cole obviously showed flashes of what he can be against UNC once he gets bigger and more knowledgeable. He can really run.

Beaux is a good player, but not elite. He should be a great #2 option next year though. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Stellato had a lot of hype around him but just can’t stay healthy. I want him to be a contributor next year.

Spector is below average, borderline unplayable IMO. I think the less snaps he gets, the better.

Will Taylor probably won’t ever be an impactful player. I’d encourage him to solely focus on baseball. That’s clearly his future.

Noble and Hanafin give us big bodied WRs that can hopefully make those 50/50 plays. Because Randall is really the only other WR that we have that can do that.

Tyler and Misun can do nice things with the ball in their hands. Both are similar to Antonio in that regard. I question whether either of them will contribute next year though.

Overall, this WR room isn’t that impressive. Antonio and Beaux are a nice 1-2 combo. Randall’s development will be critical. But the depth falls off after those 3. We’ll probably need 2 of the freshmen to contribute right away. Hopefully they are significantly better than their recruiting rankings suggest. I would have loved to have seen us go into the portal for Dominic Lovett and/or RaRa Thomas. But Georgia landed both of them instead. Since we won’t use the portal, we can’t miss in recruiting. And it’s not like the development has even been that great under Grisham anyways.

Hopefully I’m wrong though. I just don’t think we are close to where we used to be at the WR position.

Honestly this group reminds me of the 2015 group (after Williams was out for the year and before Renfrow really emerged). Not a Sammy, Nuk, or Mike anywhere on the roster but (searching for the right word here) capable. Hopefully all those reps Cade has had with Antonio, Adam, and Cole show out tonight and next year (and hopefully the OC can actually make in-game adjustments to help these guys out for once).

Charone, Artavis, Renfrow, Deon, Ray Ray, and Trevion Thompson.

Yeah, that room wasn’t great. They complemented each other well though. Deon was the vertical threat. Artavis and Ray Ray could make plays. Renfrow was lethal in the slot. Charone was a savvy veteran. We also had Leggett at TE.

Gallman was a force at RB. Deshaun’s legs were instrumental that year too, especially as the season progressed.

I’ll say this, the WR room next year should be better than that 2015 WR room. Brinny should be better than Leggett. The OL should be better. Shipley and Mafah should be better than just Gallman. Hopefully Cade takes a major step forward. I believe in him.

The difference is the portal though. That 2015 team ran through the ACC because we had so much more talent than everyone. The portal closes the gap and the margin for error becomes even smaller.

Calling Clemson “Wide Receiver U” at this point is laughable!!! We don’t have any where near the elite receivers you see at Ohio State, Alabama, UGA, USC, or most of the top 10-15 teams. Clemson doesn’t even have a top three WR girls in the ACC?? Look at the WR’s we have and the ones we’ve signed. Look at where their other offers came from? Hunter Renfro was an amazing story but it’s time to let it go. All these B and C level talent players we continue to sign aren’t going to turn in to Hunter. It shouldn’t shock anyone that we have average Wrs when we recruit average WRs. RB is in the same boat. The talent level in our RB room is average at best. Shipley included. He’s not a game breaker? He’s the king of the almost broke that one!! The king of the ankle tackle or being stopped by the turf monster. We don’t have a RB that DC’s fear that every time they get their hands in the ball they could score!! Shipley gets caught fro behind an awful lot? Why does it seem that big time skill position players have zero interest in coming to Clemson. The play of DJ has been so poor it took the spotlight off of the issue that Clemson doesn’t even have the best roster as far as talent is concerned in the ACC.

Outstanding take of our WRs

What we lack is a consistent vertical guy and a consistent big body guy. Maybe Cole is the vertical guy we've lack, but we need to see more than flashes. Randall has got to be the "Mike Williams" of this group but I'm not sure he has it in him after year. At his size he should be bodying and bullying DBs. That has nothing to do with his knee as Mike was not that fast. He plays like he's 190 lbs instead of 230 lbs. He doesn't seem to use his physical gifts. I have no confidence that Grisham can bring it out of him. If he just isn't that guy then our hopes rely on Freshman which is always a shaky proposition.

I think Taylor is going to follow your advice and stick with baseball. It is absolutely the right decision for him.

We had no shot at Lovett. GA recruited him hard out of HS and already had a good relationship with him. We did not recruit him at all. Both are SEC guys and I don't think either would have seriously considered Clemson.

Good take. What is going on with Ngata though? I still think he is a solid player and would love to see him back next year with a stronger QB. I think he would be on par with the two transfers UGA picked up and could get some NFL looks.

A very well written article that is honest with out criticism by Ms Pensy!!

I'll be the critic, A. Williams hit the nail on the head also, now they have different faster QB play so expect some better things to happen.

There was a lot of criticism earlier in the year with news articles blaming the receivers or not having the quality of receivers as in the past. They just couldn't get open was a big one liner and DJ couldn't get the ball to them. BS
I was always in disagreement with this, we have talented receivers, they went out the whole season, ran their ars$$s off running routes getting open at times but DJU just couldn't move enough out of the pocket or get an accurate throw to them when they were open. And there were some drops also I will say !!

After a while the receivers knew they were running their buttes off while DJ threw the ball in the stands or in the dirt. So I can see where their energy levels dropped off mid season, the defense bailed the team out most of the games to pick up the slack DJ left behind.

We have some good receivers that should become great with a little more experience, Williams, Randall, Turner, Spector and a couple of new guys on the way!! Briningstool can catch the ball also!! Allen's on the way out, The entire Tiger Teams enthusiasm made a complete flip when CK came in and lit the field up with his energy. The defense played like they may not get on the field again, they were making every play count, lol

Starting to look like the Clemson teams we have seen from the past. I think we as Fans will all like the future of the receiver's with CK. The VOLS will be spying CK the whole game now they know what he's got for them!!

Looking forward to tonight's game!! Should be a good lead into next years Team, GO TIGERS !!

72nd in the nation. Unreal. Pretty miraculous that we only lost two games. Where would we be if we were, say, 30th in passing instead?.

We’ll greatly improve in the passing game next year. Hopefully being able to open up the playbook will attract better WR’s - recruits have seen nothing in 2 years that they’d want to be a part of.
