TNET: A note, a quote and a stat from Clemson's loss to Georgia

A note, a quote and a stat from Clemson's loss to Georgia

Clemson’s defense held up its end of the deal, but the offense never could get going in a game that the Tigers will look back on at the end of the season and know they could’ve won.

When will Dabo realize that Clemson has done a terrible job coaching and developing the OL. It’s been a problem for years but our great QB’s helped make up for the difference. Also, again same thought different year…. Streeter is a good coach but not great enough to develop QB’s he had it easy with DW and TL. Coaching has to get better. They are to blame.
We will see how good we are and how we respond. Go Tigers.

I have been a cheerleader for the o line when it came under fire. I was one of the first screaming for TL to start over Bryant and got blasted on here. I just see the QB play different due to playing the position. I never had a decent o line. Maybe that’s why I couldn’t see it. I saw it last night. Missed assignment after missed assignment. UGA rushes 3-4 all night and dropped 7-8 and got home quick. Playcalling did us no favors. Our offensive scheme has gone sour since Scott left. Elliott is hard headed and makes few adjustments. Quick screens and middle crossing routes kill a speed rush. We did little to slow their rush from a play calling standpoint. We need an o line coach and a play caller.

When you have a slow, weak line playing against future 1st Round NFL draft picks, there are no easy answers. I do not like to single out players but we had some linemen that just had no chance. We also have a QB that cannot, or will not run and that is a problem. The problem with trying to be objective is how easy we have had it with 2 once in a generation QB's and bad competition that our line could beat. This can be a good team but if you take an honest look, we may not continue our Playoff run but only 1 game has been played.

^^^ this is more of what I'd like to hear^^^

Just a no spin, no colored glasses, just true assessment of the facts. Obviously I never played but my nephew played offensive guard for a d3 school.

He told me go back and watch the LSU or last year's OSU games and you'll see how an offense can neutralize a pass rush.

"UGA rushes 3-4 all night and dropped 7-8 and got home quick" ... not so in the first quarter, they routinely brought more. I have not rewatched the entire game but in the first quarter it was somewhat on #5... you can't step into pressure in the pocket. #71 always backed up 2 or 3 steps on pass pro and was met with a bull rush and created a gap... the sack on the 3 in the first series the UGA D lineman is bull rushing 71 and 5 steps to his left, into the rush.. if he moved to his right its a different play. Same story all night... they did start to T off and we had no play call answer for it...

Would love for a former O-line player to break down the plays ... I would pay to see that. All the position groups....

He will get better from today, that is how he's built... SWAG doesn't win games.

Could of won? What game did you watch?

I completely missed whatever you were watching.

I'm as Orange as they get but you need to take off those orange glasses.

1st and goal, 4Q, down 7

We certainly had chances to tie the game up. Thanks to that stifling defense for keeping hope alive until the very end.

We were down 10-0 when we had 1st and goal

settled for a FG

Correct. And the play calling those 3 plays was absolutely awful.

We will see a huge drop off in the talent of our opposition but after a restless night, we are not a Top 5 team. I can only look at what I remember and that is last night and against Ohio State last season. Our offensive line is terrible and we have got to find a way to run the ball or we will have more struggles. We can win the next 11 but unless we improve, it will not be easy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If we’re not a top 5 team, then…

Sep 5, 2021, 12:41 PM

UGA isn’t a top 5 team. Their offense only scored 3 points too. We either watched two really good programs that made a lot of first game mistakes. Or two over rated, over hyped teams that don’t deserve to be in the top 20 much less top 5. I guess time will tell.

I honestly think shuffling the oline around too much in camp really hurt us against UGA. The center void really hurt because we cannot really find a legit center.

Really tired of TE’s vanilla playcalling. We completely abandoned the run. You have to mix it in and god forbid you run the ball 2 times in a row. Line up run the ball then go quick and run it again. Where is the tempo? I also think we may be giving the QB to much lead way with the RPO’s and changing out of plays.

I'm sorry, but for all the hype about how great DJ was going to be, with comments expressing that he actually looked better in preseason than Trevor or Deshaun, ummm I sure didn't see that. What I saw was a scared kid who couldn't connect. Yes, some of that was on Tony Elliott, but some of that, most of that was on DJ. You have to be able to decide things on the fly. Aside from that, the offensive line left hole big enough for a Mack truck to drive through! What's that about? For as bad as the team looked last night, Dabo needs to take a step back. This kind of performance is not of an elite standard and maybe he should have given 2nd and 3rd stringers a rip at it. Could they have done worse?

David, I agree with your each of your assessments 100%
I also think what Tony Elliott said is correct but IMO his play calling could have been better but in his defense, I doubt anyone could've done much better Saturday night. Elliott didn't have much to work with. A tough first game for an offense that has had no chance to gel.
No cohesiveness at this point. IMO by midseason we'll be hitting on all cylinders.
I don't think the O line will be where they need to be against top tier teams but will definitely improve as the season goes on.

I also realize Georgia totally outplayed us but we did have a couple opportunities for this to have been a OT game.
