Whats the deal with Trevor in JAX?

Dec 7, 2021, 11:25 AM

His first game he threw some picks but also threw 3 TDs and had like 300 yards passing. But at least that shows they were trying to create some offense. Since then he's been in the 150-200 range every game. Very, very conservative and not at all close to competitive. They seem to always be down by too much too early in games.

I don't ever get to see JAX games so i don't get to get any context on these games. I know they have some receivers drop balls but can't be just that. Hopefully Trevor will start just taking ownership of the offensive play calling his game. I know as a rookie that is hard to do b/c you're green. But i hope he ends the season with more fluidity and improvement so next year will be a positive. Right now its no where close to winning football.

His team sucks and his coaches suck

Yeah, it takes one heck of a coaching job to make a first-year QB win a championship... and a lights out defense and great WR/RB help too.

Well ole boy for the Patriots has turned that team around . But yeah it takes coaching and some help on the field .

Maybe they are tanking.

Maybe they are throwing less and running more and telling him to get rid of it quick when they do pass to keep him from getting killed behind their terrible OL.

Maybe the Jags are just terrible and there isn't much else he can do.

Probably a combination of all of these things.

They need a lot more draft picks and free agent signings to be anything close to competitive in their division.

Urban Meyer simple as that, terrible hire but Manning threw 28int his rookie year. Trevor also has gotten zero help from his wideouts, he’s going to be alright.

On Meyer - I was amazed to read an article last week where he said they would start using offensive schemes that Trevor was more comfortable with, similar to what he’d run at Clemson. Oddly, Meyer would think of this going into week 11, not week 1? They desperately need playmaker WR’s on offense that can separate themselves and get open. It didn’t help that ETN got hurt and out for the entire season. Hopefully they can provide him a better supporting cast in the off season.

Their offensive line is horrible.

Dec 7, 2021, 11:31 AM

Etienne is out for the year.

They were the worst team in the league last year, which is why they got Trevor and Travis with the first choices in the 1st and 2nd round.

Re: Their offensive line is horrible.

Small correction to your post. The Jags had 2 1st round picks this past year and the ETN pick was their 2nd pick in the 1st round.

Wait... you're telling me poor O-line play effects the QB. Shocking, being on this board this season I thought it was all on the QB.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

TL should sue Jacksonville for non-support

Dec 7, 2021, 11:36 AM

His supporting cast is...well...less than ideal.

Re: Whats the deal with Trevor in JAX?

They are not a very good team in any area…they know this…they have no playmakers on offense, especially at receiver…they know this…

They are decent on defense at times…they have a decent running back…they are trying to rely on those things while not getting Trevor killed and keeping his confidence from being shattered by throwing him to the wolves when they know all of the above…I actually think it’s a pretty smart move for them Iah!!!

The draft will help, getting ETN back will help…and hopefully they can find a few acquisitions in the off-season via free agency to at least make them somewhat competitive and show some progress for next year…if so then then year 3&4 will be the years where they will all have to sh*t or get off the pot…

I am afraid that if they don’t show some progress next year on offense then it will be a difficult sell getting the free agent acquisitions they will need after year 2 in order to be successful in years 3&4…

Just my take!!!

a rookie?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonormyfavorange.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he shouldn't be the worst one of the bunch though

Dec 7, 2021, 1:31 PM

idc what team he goes to. They are dead in the water usually after the first 7 mins of the game. Anemic is the word that comes to mind. At least these other kids who play for bad teams seem to have a "promising" type game here and there so far. Trevor hasn't had one yet. Its like they told him to throw only screen passes and hand the ball off after that first game. Justin Fields, Mac Jones, Zach Wilson, and even Davis Mills have had some flashes of being in control and putting up competitive numbers so far. Trey Lance is the only other that has looked just okay but he hasn't really played consistently. But all the Jags games are just non-competitive on offense. Defense is okay. I hope he turns one of these last remaining games into one he can hang his hat on.

They won their 1st and 2nd games with Trevor after 20 losses in a row. That's something.

They were the worst team in the league last year. You don’t fix that in 1 year, with a new coach and a rookie at QB. They’re a few years away from any hope of being good.

I Went To The Jax vs Denver...

Dec 7, 2021, 12:18 PM

game . A lot of good passes thrown to receivers wide open....and dropped. Plus his protection sucked .

i'm just talking about having one game where they look like

Dec 7, 2021, 1:33 PM [ in reply to Re: Whats the deal with Trevor in JAX? ]

they belong, competitively, in the NFL. It kinda looks like our offense at Clemson this year.

Wonder if JAX will draft heavy OL this year. What little I've seen of JAX Trevor has very little time to work.

I was blinded by Urbans success in College. He is not much of a X's and O's guy and he is such a horrible coach. I dont think many of the Jaguars players respect him or want to play for him.bringing in Tebow, giving away Minshew for a 6th round pick and a bag of chips, that guy has made horrible decisions and he is not a good NFL coach.

Take a look at who someone like Joe Burrow is throwing to then take a look at who TL is throwing to, especially these last few weeks. Thats probably the simplest answer to your question.

Re: Whats the deal with Trevor in JAX?

Dec 7, 2021, 1:52 PM

Just throwing in my 2 cents.

The owner of the Jags is not a football guy. The Jags probably should have passed on ETN and picked up help on the DL and OL.

Trevor doesn't stand a chance this year with the train wreck that the team is.

Urban Meyers was possibly the worst NFL hire ever. The organization should have realized very few college coaches do well as head coaches in the NFL.

It's a bad situation but at least TL and ETN are getting compensated well!

Re: Whats the deal with Trevor in JAX?

Dec 7, 2021, 2:26 PM

One word injuries.

Dj Chark (The only viable deep threat), AJ Cann( Guard), James Robinson and Travis Etienne, James Agnew (wr) has missed time, the list goes on.

Plus the OL is below average and play calling has been horrendous and the head coach has been a distraction rather than a leader.

It's ugly. Really think they ought to fire Urban and pay whatever it takes to hire Brian Daboll.
