TJ Green

Mar 10, 2016, 11:37 AM

This kid is legit. He has excelled in literally every drill ive watched him in. Do not be surprised if Dodd/Lawson, Alexander, and Green to be first round picks. No later than early second for Green IMO. kearse is a wildcard. Very underwhelming drill performances but freakish size.

Agreed. TJ Green has surprised a lot of people I believe. Same with Kearse, just in a negative way. Based on what I saw today, DJ Reader has better footwork than Kearse, which baffles me.

Drills are good and all but his film is not to great IMO.

While Green was certainly responsible for his share of busts

These things are very easy to correct relatively speaking. However, it is hard to deny the physical skill set he possesses. It is extremely rare.

A lot of people like to talk about Kearse being an athletic freak at the safety position. While this may be true, I actually think TJ Green's measurable are more conducive to success at the next level. He has above average height at 6'3+ but has a much lower center of gravity than Kearse, hence his better acceleration and 40 speed. He also has an above average vert and can cut on a dime. His hands have looked great in these drills as well.

While he certainly has a ways to go to succeed at the next level, I do believe some of these GMs are going to salivate over what might could be with a little additional coaching. I think Kearse is the same way, but unfortunately it seems he may be trending downward. He has better film but for one reason another has lost a couple of steps in his giddy-up.

I think Green is going to surprise a lot of people on draft day.

I think you hit the nail on the head with both points. He has tested well enough to go in the second round (just not enough of a premium on safeties to go in the first) as long as he can interview well enough to convince teams that he can correct mental mistakes.

There is no telling with Kearse. Going into the combine I thought teams would reach for him bases purely on athletic potential, but given how he has tested you have to wonder if that was either overstated or if there is a work ethic/off the field issue. Either one puts him in the mid rounds.

Well I believe our coaches do a fine job and IMO he does not have what it takes to be a good starting saftey in the NFL when he wasnt that good in college. He my have the skill set and measurables but lacks the natural born instincts it take to be a ball hawk and a great football player. Just my thought. I do believe he will go high and I'm sure he has great work ethic but he cannot cover and has poor tackling skillsagain IMO.

A little too optimistic about those predictions.

I'm figuring we get two first rounders and hope for more. I'm going with 2 first rounders (maybe none the first half of round 1), 1 2nd rounder (probably early in the round), and 1 3rd rounder. I expect a handful of late round selections as well.

I think Green is a 3rd or 4th rounder but some team may love his measurables and he may go earlier; only takes one team.

I agree with you on Green, but think that Dodd might slip based on his health. He's a one hit wonder in the dyes of the scouts with an excellent performance this past season where he got better as the year went on. If they could get some measurable, that might be enough to move him into the first round. I suspect that it might get him to day 1, but not round 1.

Alexander could also slip based on decent, but not great speed. He's shorter than they would like, but has great athleticism. He should also interview well. Close call.

Shaq is more certain because he's been performing at a consistently high level for a while. With regard to Green and to a degree Kearse, despite their excellent athleticism, they play safety and that position rarely gets bumped to 1st round. Perhaps, in the later stages teams will use a 1st round pick for a safety, but they usually pick up even the best guys for the back end later in the draft.

I wouldn't be shocked if we have only 1 first round pick, but I would be shocked if we have 4. That said, by the end of the first day, we could easily have 5 guys drafted.

The first day is round 1 only (unless they changed the format yet again) so I don't think we'll be seeing 5 guys gone.
