Tired of Carrying Water For The ACC.

There should never be a time when the 3rd ranked team loses to the 5th ranked team by 7 in a slugfest after the first game of the year and be in dire troubled of making the playoffs because the ACC from top to bottom may be historically bad.
Clemson needs help from teams like Ohio State, UGA, Oklahoma and even some Pac 12 teams to either have a bad non-ranked loss or lose a couple of games to give Clemson a shot to control their own destiny. We simply don't play anyone left that appears to be worth a darn. There are a few "maybe's" of being decent but we are going to be double digit favorites over everyone left on the schedule. I can't believe there are threads about how we are going to handle SC State. We can name the score on that game and we'll clear the bench. It's not a rocket science game to analyze.
Even in the days of the infamous "ACC Wheel of Destiny", parody of good teams was the problem and not being bad.
I don't think Clemson fans have ever been ACC homers like the SEC SEC fans. It's fun to see an ACC team beat an SEC for the purpose of needling the SEC fans more than celebrating an ACC win.
Given the rule changes with NIL, transfer portal, free-agent transfers does anyone realistically see any team outside of possible FSU becoming a solid program?
I see a Basketball Conference becoming better top-to bottom and football getting weaker and weaker.
Is the ACC quicksand that will pull Clemson down eventually or does it rebound to be a credible league?
I don't want to see Clemson leave the ACC and I certainly don't like the idea of wanting to be in the SEC if they would have us.
Maybe this "Alliance" will allow us to schedule better non-conference games and drop FCS games for a while.
Heck, even playing South Carolina hurts us because they are so bad they don't enhance our schedule. I could without playing the rival if it meant better games.
Okay, I'm done..

Keep in mind that most of the SEC is "paid to play" with no to little expectation of actually winning anything, let alone a championship. You have maybe 3 teams Bama, LSU and Auburn in the SEC west and Florida that *might* get it together and win a Nattie. However, they are 8-4 a lot or worse 3-9 in Auburns case. Everyone else is out to be the "best bridesmaid" possible and get a little bit of that Capitol One bowl side action.
I mean, the SEC and the ACC are exactly even in the number of teams making playoff appearance (3 each)... and the last BCS was an ACC beating of an SEC team.

with what you're saying there but A&M and BAMA are tops in the West right now. The thing about the SEC is they have football programs. They have football fan bases. If a Coach were up for a job in the SEC even though he has a tough schedule he also has the support necessary to win a national title. That isn't true of all their schools but for a majority.

We've been to the CFP 6 straight times! 3 times with a loss

What more do you want?
The facts show the ACC doesn't "pull Clemson down". The conference (despite being pathetic) serves its purpose very well. The facts also show our season isn't over because we lost to UGA. Let things play out. I hate to say this, but our offense may be so bad that we aren't even a championship caliber team despite having one of our best defenses ever. Can't blame the conference for that.
Those of you that still give a care about the conference just don't get it. Please detach yourself from it and join the rest of us.
We no longer control our destiny and are at risk this year because we are 0-1. Same would be true for OU or Ohio State. If 6/6 turns into 6/7, so be it. I'll look forward to 7/8 then 8/9. The sorry conference has nothing to do with it.

Sitting on our laurels and admiring our accomplishments is the very thing that will bring us down. Nick Saban saw the game changing and flip his offense. He saw NIL affecting football and is taking it up on how Bama players can make bank at his school. He also is playing players out of the transfer portal. He doesn't have to worry about a bad league but he would have a plan for that.
A lot of blue bloods have fallen because their own hubris thought they could never fall. Clemson has to work harder because we are in a terrible league.
Yes...6 playoffs, two natty's...Great! Do you want to wait another 30-40 years for another title? We were still taking about the 1981 team less than 10 years ago and it was a little pathetic.
The ACC was strong enough where we could loss to an unranked Pittsburg and get away with it.
We've lost the benefit of the doubt from those 6 playoff appearances and 2 natty's because our performance in the last couple of years at the highest level hasn't been good. LSU only two years ago had maybe the best ever college team and they are ready to run coach O out of town.
If the ACC is going to continue to stink, we need all 4 non-conference games to be against teams that are good because the league is not as good as some of the FCS schools we play against.

We are currently resting on our laurels, which are excellent, but we aren’t exactly trending in the right direction. 2018 is getting further and further in the rear view mirror. The transfer portal and the NIL will create a wider and wider gap between the haves and the have-nots. We have succeeded recently in spite of the ACC, but it’s going to get harder going forward to keep up with the big boys.

I hear you, but the only way that Clemson would ever consider leaving the ACC, is the ACC was to implode, and I don't ever see that happening, not in my life time...
But, if Clemson is going to throw the most money into the FB program, Clemson would be better off in the SEC than the ACC as a FB school. Clemson FB recruiting loses numerous 5 star recruits only bc Clemson is in the ACC!!!
IMPO, Clemson could be a much better FB program if they were in the SEC. We would play against better competition, and we would get as many of the 5 star recruit as any of the power FB schools in the SEC!!!

The ACC gives us a free ride to the playoffs. We might not have even been there last year had we been in a tough conference.

If we run the table (which we should), we will not make the playoffs against other one loss P5 teams because they all have quality games on their schedule. We had one and we lost. That's the whole reason for my OP.

It is highly unlikely...

that a one loss Clemson team with an ACC Championship will be left out of the CFP.
Could it happed? Sure, but the likelihood is remote IMO.

Because we just rushed for 2 yards vs Georgia. We didn't do that last year and we could hid our flaws in the ACC.

And if we can pull ourselves together and run the table, it won't be left out this year, either.

Be honest with ya. I like us carrying the water much better than I liked it when FSU was carrying the water.
