there) . . . . type in the "at" symbol and then with no space, start typing in the user name

A pop-up menu will come up and as you keep typing the name, it gets more & more selective - click on the name you want.

It sends an email to the user telling them they have been mentioned on this here most wonderfullest website thingy.
