Throwing myself on the mercy of the board...I pull for

Sep 24, 2019, 8:43 AM

the ACC. Now, I don't buy ACC gear, or chant "ACC!", but I pull for our conference.

I am a Clemson fan first, anti-SCAR second, and what's best for Clemson third, but after that, I pull for who I want to pull for, and conference affiliation is one of the primary factors. And when Clemson or the ACC is not involved, I generally pull against the SEC in intra-conference games, and for the underdog in SEC conference games.

I am very much a "win them all and ignore the haters" kind of fan, but I would like to win them all AND have the ACC be a better respected conference. I barely made it into Death Valley for kickoff on Saturday because I wanted to watch Pitt finish off UCF.

I pull for all ACC teams

Sep 24, 2019, 8:50 AM

(not named Clemson) to lose every* game they play in.

*unless they're playing the coots, then I pull for the ACC team to win.

I was thinking about this the other day..

Sep 24, 2019, 8:53 AM

before ESPN signed that crazy SEC contract, I did not pull against the SEC or for the ACC.

20 years ago I would be pulling for a regional team like Auburn to beat Oregon and for even Georgia to beat Notre Dame.

I pulled against the ACC conferecne members because those were the Tigers real rivals. I likely would be hoping that WVU would beat NC State, rather than looking at the game through the lense of conference strength.

I think most Clemson fans that have been around a while think the same. And the fact that the coots are so big on conference tugging and we all want the worst for them, so yes we do want the sec to do bad, ACC to do good, because after all, that is what's worst for the coots. It's all good human nature. But bottom line, all or most all Clemson fans can and do get satisfaction out of our team winning and winning championships at that.

I can't imagine being where the coots are and them being where we are. My goodness! Life is good!

Lol.. respected by who?

Sep 24, 2019, 9:05 AM

I promise every team, every coach, and every player that faces clemson respects clemson. They don't give a turd about the ACC.

The media pushes homerism to sell more beer and toilet paper commercials. They are promoters, not journalists.

I agree with regard to football

Sep 24, 2019, 9:15 AM

but how much respect do we get in basketball independent of the conference?

Whatever the deal is, I am not going to change anyone's mind, and no one is going to change mine. I was just curious to see if i was alone in my loyalty to the ACC teams, and maybe I am. I am sure there are "outliers", matchups where I would pull for a non-ACC team over an ACC team when it had no direct impact on Clemson, but these are very few and far between.

I wonder how some of the ACC hoops blue bloods feel about it. Would be curious to hear from them.

I doubt it

Sep 24, 2019, 10:13 AM

And when it comes to football, I think your statement is true, but its reciprocal is not

Sep 24, 2019, 9:21 AM

I pull for: Clemson

If the tigers aren't playing then: Wake

No ill will towards them but they should lose: GT, VT

I want them to be bad but not THAT bad: FSU, Duke, UVA, Miami

I want them to know a brief moment of hope only to have it replaced is fear and disappointment: NC State

I want them to lose everything, including their accreditation: UNC

I don't even know why there are here but please don't embarrass everyone: Louis, BC, Pitt, Cuse

No conference homer at all until a year or so ago. Now just a little bit. I get the “why do you pull for someone you recruit against “ narrative. Continuous slamming of how weak the rest of the league is by our SEC brethren ( coots especially because that’s all they got at this point) made me change my thoughts somewhat. Still not pulling for the ACC every time they play. But, if there is a ACC vs SEC head to head matchup, it’s ACC every time. Heck, we recruit more against the SEC guys anyway!

Think about what you typed

Sep 24, 2019, 9:52 AM

You let a bunch of coots dictate how you think.

Teams play each other to win sporting contests. They go for the win.

Fans turn winning into losing and losing into winning and the media thrives on it.

Nope, I said SEC brethren w/ especially coots in parenthesis. I’m referring to the whole egotistical conference.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I do as well

Sep 24, 2019, 9:53 AM

I feel like if they do to poorly it reflects badly on our sos which gets us negative media. Like it or not how the Conference is perceived can affect Clemson for better or worse.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are my twin, I pull for all teams the exact same way.

Sep 24, 2019, 9:57 AM

It's nice that the dirt peckers literally have no hope. I do however enjoy when they have hope that they are going to beat us so their fans all talk trash and then leave at half time.

They probably won't even go to the game this year. Oh well, will probably make tickets cheaper for me.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I always pull for ACC teams...

I pull for the ACC too, kinda

Sep 24, 2019, 10:15 AM

but I do get a little bit of joy when The Citadel beats GT or ODU beats VT. Schadenfreude is the defining characteristic of college football fandom I think.

Re: Throwing myself on the mercy of the board...I pull for

Sep 24, 2019, 10:58 AM

I want FSU and Miami to be embarrassed in every possible scenario imaginable. I see them as the only real threats to return to glory and seriously challenge our spot on top consistently.

For most of the rest of the ACC I simply wish that they do not get embarrassed.

I want them to avoid losses to Kansas and FCS schools and that sort of thing.

The only time I generally pull for the ACC is when they have a chance to upset a contender, but that isn't really exclusive to just ACC teams.

This is my approach for football.

In basketball, I hope for all the "blue bloods" to get embarrassed in any instance possible.

I could not care less what the average ACC team does in basketball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree with maybe everything you said

Sep 24, 2019, 11:10 AM

I put a lot of this in the "what's best for Clemson" category, which is well above the conference loyalty category.

And in hoops, "what's best for Clemson" covers a lot of ground!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I will chant "ACC!" when I am present when an ACC team
