First off the clock doesn't start until a player touches the ball. Secondly, you have to have a player open to throw it deep. Thirdly, teams with a lead that late almost never throw it deep. Fourthly, if you throw it deep and an opposing player steals it, with 2.2 seconds they have enough time to call timeout. Fifthly, if you throw it deep and if it goes out of bounds without touching a player, no time goes off the clock. Sixthly, you just showed your ignorance of the game of basketball.

that throwing a longer pass would have certainly minimized the chances of Pitt getting off a good shot.

wasn't testy, just amazed that people are that ignorant of basketball, not to know that throwing it deep runs a high risk. So it's not as simple as saying "we should have thrown the ball deep and everything would have been fine". Also, tired of seeing our own fans stand up for cheating refs. Tell me how many times did Jamie Dixon get a technical for being out on the court the whole game?

long pass than one right under your basket? I agree it can't be assumed a long pass would have been 100% effective, but I think a longer pass means less risk. No?

and it's perfectly clear that passing past half court runs a higher risk. Also, pitt wouldn't have stole it if one of their players didn't push through Roper to get the ball. Also, the pitt player who shot the ball did an up and down before he shot the ball, which is a walk. And the ball didn't leave his hands until time expired.
There is no discussion about it, by percentages it is much safer to pass it short to a good free throw shooter, than it is to just randomly pass the ball past half court.

Ever heard of a rainbow pass? There is a play that throws deep and wins this game easily . I've posted it here many places. YOU NEVER EVER VDO WHAT WE DID! Throwing it long in a rainbow pass and all we need to do is touch it and it's game over. You sir are incorrect.
