Throw away the personal disdain you have for Georgia.

(I assume you have this disdain, as any good Clemson fan should.) Looking at their schedule for 2022, if they get by Oregon in their first game, they play mostly the dregs of the SEC. No Bama, no LSU, no A&M, not even an Ole P!ss. The only team they play that could be considered "on the rise" is Kentucky. Unless you are a delusional Coot fan, and think you are on the rise enough to compete with them. Although, they do seem to annually save their worst game for you, so who knows?

As such, as much as it pains me to say it, their road to the playoffs is pretty much the same as last year. They can go undefeated in the regular season, get an inflated ranking, lose to Bama in the SEC Championship Game (AGAIN), and still get in.

Yea or Nay on chances of this? Or are they a Cookie Monster One Hit Wonder?

The coots usually have the same easy SEC schedule every year.

As long as Florida and the Tennessee stay down like they are, Georgia will have a pretty easy ride every year. They still have to go out and win 12 games even in years where they don’t have to face the better teams in the west. Also hard to see them beating Auburn too many years in succession. Auburn usually fields a competitive team for Bama and UGA every fourth year or so, sometimes even more frequently.

I think they drop a game this year they shouldn't

the "SEC rotating schedule" from the other side of the conference. Like I've told my Gamecock ex-BIL (super nice guy, we're still close) when he complains about playing Bama... hey, we've played em 4 times the last 5 years, and you've only played em once. ONCE.

Or if he says - "y'all play in the ACC, you don't know what it's like to play LSU in Baton Rouge on a Sat night". My reply - neither do you. You play em once every 6 years with the rotating schedule from the SECW... home & away, so you only play at their place once every 12 years. And odds are about 50/50 if it's an afternoon or night game, that depends on TV networks and what time slots are available. So now it's down to maybe once every 24 years for a "night game in Baton Rouge".

Seriously, you're complaining 24/7 about something that happens maybe once every quarter century? Never let the Lamecocks twist their view of the universe into reality.

To answer your original question - yes, you can pencil them in for a 12-0 regular season.

You're right re: USC-Bama, but USC has actually played in Baton Rouge 3 times in the last 10 seasons. 2 of those 3 were night games, and the other was the 3:30 game - which if you've ever been to LSU might as well be a night game.

Dawgs win 'em all during the regular season and play Bama in Atlanta. Even with a close loss to Bama, the Dawgs are likely in the playoff.

This is not a flame but switch Georgia and Clemson in the SEC and ACC last 7 years and UGA has 4 national titles. It is possible Clemson would have the 2018 Natty but the attrition of playing in the SEC might have depleted the Tigers.

Clemson is in the perfect position but must be careful playing the out of conference games.

Nah, the "SEC attrition" is just another catch phrase... or crutch,

[1]

if you will, that all SEC teams use. Second only to "we really didn't want to be there". Anytime an SEC team wins their bowl game, it proves how dominant they are; if they lose, they were just going through the motions and "really didn't want to be there". Nice little win/win, huh. Can't lose.

I've never seen any evidence of how playing in the SEC translates into "attrition". We've played Bama during their most dominant stretch ever. Touted during those years as "the best team in college football history" and "Bama's entire defensive front 7 are draft picks, and that includes the 2nd string"... blah, blah, blah. And then we either lose close or beat em. And you don't see our players getting injured and toted off the field, do you?

We'll play Bama, Texas A&M, Auburn, LSU, UofSC, etc,... and if anything, they're the ones gasping for air and faking injuries to slow us down. Check our record against those teams recently. I mean, I guess when Bama plays East Mississippi Tech, surely they have a fleet of ambulances ready for all players getting broken into pieces, right? C'mon dude, that's weak as water.

Georgia would not have beaten Bama in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020 (oh wait, they didn't in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020) and lost to LSU in 2019. So which other 3 years would they have won the Natty?

While the Tigers are 18-9 against SEC foes under the guidance of Head Coach Dabo Swinney, Clemson's success against the SEC has been particularly pronounced as of late, as the Tigers are 12-3 against the conference in the College Football Playoff era, including a 10-1 mark in regular season play during that time frame. Clemson has won 10 of its last 11 against the SEC since the start of the 2016 season, including a 6-1 mark against the SEC West in that span.

I believe that also counts two national Championships!
So Clemson may play better against the Sec.
Just saying!

You are exactly right with your assessment. Unless they have a slip-up during the regular season, they are back in.
