Latest on Justin Flowe - FWIW

Dec 17, 2014, 8:20 AM

Kid is struggling with being away from home it would seem. Family pressuring him to stay West Coast, preferably USC. Hopefully he's ALL IN...

Only one CB moved to Flowe.....so I think we are still in a really good spot with him.

Re: Latest on Justin Flowe - FWIW

Dec 17, 2019, 8:31 AM

Yall have missed some news or something. Clemson is full at LB with Simpson.

Flowe is is 100% unequivocally not coming here. He couldn't commit to our coaches even if he wanted to at this point.

Downvote me if you want, but I'm not making this stuff up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 44% pulse is all we need to know about you.

Dec 17, 2019, 8:32 AM

And FWIW, I know someone in the program and that is not at ALL what they are saying. You are full of excrement. Oregon has made a late push. Flowe plays inside and is probably conflicted, but not at all set in which way he is going. Either way, we are good to go with Simpson at OLB and best of luck to the kid of he stays out west.

and what he said is correct except that we would not take his commitment.

But he isn't coming here.

Re: I also know somebody connected with the program

Dec 17, 2019, 8:44 AM

No. We will oversign if Flowe wants to come here. And honestly, I think Simpson has more upside than Flowe---size, speed and ability in coverage. Flowe is more polished at this point, but with a year with BV under his belt, I would take Simpson all day long. Also Simpson could play inside if he added a little weight per staff.

One thing I know about Dabo---don't slow play him he always has a Plan B.

Dec 17, 2019, 8:34 AM [ in reply to Re: Latest on Justin Flowe - FWIW ]

Simpson is an OLB and a possible DE prospect. Flowe is an ILB. Different position, so you are mistaken. If he decides to commit to Clemson, there will be plenty of room and he will be accepted with open arms.

We’ll all find out Wednesday.

Re: Latest on Justin Flowe - FWIW

Dec 17, 2019, 9:27 AM [ in reply to Re: Latest on Justin Flowe - FWIW ]

This couldn't be more accurate - we stopped tracking his recruitment on Tiger Illustrated. We basically told him to poop or get off the pot and he couldn't give us anything definitive. This was a bird in the hand situation with Trenton, who seems to be a better culture fit anyways. Good risk management executed by the coaching staff.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Turning away a top 5 prospect because you are full

Dec 17, 2019, 9:52 AM [ in reply to Re: Latest on Justin Flowe - FWIW ]

at LB seems like pretty suspect decision making. If Flowe really wants to come to Clemson i can't imagine the staff turning him down unless they literally can't find a single available scholarship for him.

I was under the impression that

Dec 17, 2019, 8:34 AM

We were completely out of it with this guy. This article makes it sound like there's a decent chance we could get him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What I read was that

Dec 17, 2019, 8:56 AM

We’ve stopped recruiting him so if he decides to come here it’s on his own.

...Which I interpret as we will no longer call, text, visit him, but he knows he has a spot and can commit...just no more prodding from us. The ball is fully in his court.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Seems just like several other big-time recruits we've had

Dec 17, 2019, 8:53 AM

over the last few years. Sounds like he was a "silent commit" early on but started stringing us along as momma kept working on him to stay near mommy.

Unfortunately for him he's going to let her make the [wrong] decision for him.

No big deal. Dabo only wants independent men on his team and it looks like we got a great one in Simpson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sounds like most of y’all with “inside sources” need to have your sources talk to each other

Dec 17, 2019, 8:55 AM

IMO (and I have no inside sources) Flowe is a guy you ABSOLUTELY make room for if he wants to come here.

I think the staff made the right call of pivoting to Simpson knowing he’s also a special talent with very high interest in Clemson but if I’m the staff I definitely accept Flowe’s commitment.

Opening up 2 more spots in this class means they already know some attrition is coming and with Henderson not signing until February, I’d be very surprised if there isn’t at least one more departure before then.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly. You don't tell a top 5 prospect, that by all

Seems odd that a three hour flight would be a deal breaker in this day and age when its never been easier to stay in touch with each other from a distance. He's going to have to stand up to his family and do what he thinks best at some point in his life but I doubt it will be as a HS senior. Too bad for him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Let’s be careful making assumptions about family situations

Dec 17, 2019, 9:11 AM

He would hardly be the first guy to go against his first choice to put his family’s wishes first and that doesn’t make it a mistake.

He’s a tremendous talent who has a bright future wherever he chooses. Hope he’s a Tiger but wish him the best whatever he decides. Would like to see some of the internet tough guys on here be put in this position as 17-18 year olds.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Let’s be careful making assumptions about family situations

Dec 17, 2019, 9:55 AM

Oh I totally agree. Most of us, myself included, wouldn't have the guts to upset our family and do what we wanted at that age. If he chooses to go to a school he doesn't really like just to make his mama happy thats, I think most would agree, a mistake. Not saying thats the whole story but thats kind of what its sounding like right now. Seems like a nice kid and I'm sure he will be a success wherever he ends up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Three hour flight in a Gulfstream maybe.

Gulfstream 650(the fastest private jet), it still would take 4.25 hours from Folsom CA to Clemson SC.

All commercial flights are at least 6.50 hours.

This is just not true.

OK, so 4 hours. I stand corrected. Don't really think it impacts the larger point though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: link I found

Dec 17, 2019, 10:01 AM [ in reply to link I found ]

It can be faster if the jet stream is flowing in the right direction. Now flying back will be a little slower because usually going against it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LA to Atlanta might be ~4 hours but LA to Clemson is not

Dec 17, 2019, 10:05 AM [ in reply to Re: Actually flying direct at top speed in a ]

There's still a 2 hour drive after that or a layover and connecting flight to GSP + 45 minute drive.

Also, it takes a lot longer to fly TO LA from Atlanta than vice versa because of the prevailing winds. In my experience, flights out to LA frequently involve layovers somewhere like Dallas whereas it's pretty easy to get direct flights from LA to Atlanta.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

or even better

Dec 17, 2019, 10:10 AM

https://www.travelmath.com/flying-time/from/Los+Angeles,+CA/to/Clemson,+SC

LA to Clemson direct ;)

Flying time from Los Angeles, CA to Clemson, SC
The total flight duration from Los Angeles, CA to Clemson, SC is 4 hours, 32 minutes.

This assumes an average flight speed for a commercial airliner of 500 mph, which is equivalent to 805 km/h or 434 knots. It also adds an extra 30 minutes for take-off and landing. Your exact time may vary depending on wind speeds.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's cool if you are a coach with a private jet

Dec 17, 2019, 10:48 AM

Flowe and/or his family isn't flying direct from LA to Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

did you take into account time change 6.5-3=3.5

Dec 17, 2019, 9:31 AM [ in reply to Actually flying direct at top speed in a ]

;) sorry trying to help the poster out, but are you really arguing over a 3 hr flight vs 6 or 7, I dont think the actual exact flight time was the point, more that its easier this day in age to travel/stay in touch. 7 hrs really isnt that bad.

Flowe can do what he wants and I wont fault him. He just needs to make the decision for himself and if hes happy we should all be happy for him. All good natured ribbing aside, this step is an accomplishment for all that will sign tomorrow and they should be applauded instead of second guessed. Only ones I really criticize are ones that play games with the process and may be taking up a spot someone else could have. This is why early signing is so good cause it gives those guys another opportunity.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: did you take into account time change 6.5-3=3.5

Dec 17, 2019, 9:46 AM

Do you have any idea how exhausting it would be to do that every weekend? Much less how expensive it would be?

Nothing wrong with wanting to play at Clemson but wanting your family to get to be there too. Sometimes fmaily comes first.

Young man is a scary good talent. Hope he comes to Clemson, but understand why if he does not. Pretty coool to have the choices he does.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Which is pretty much what I said if you read whole post

Dec 17, 2019, 9:58 AM

Yes, if they came every weekend, it would be exhausting and expensive. That would be the case maybe worse if he went anywhere further than 3 hr drive as well, minus the expensive part.
