Thoughts on last nights game

Nov 10, 2021, 7:45 AM

- Collins is a significant upgrade over Clyde Trapp. He's going to be fun to watch this year. Hopefully he can hit FTs at a better rate.

- PJ Hall is going to have a good year. I was impressed with how well he defended without getting into foul trouble. He needs to keep that up. He looks WAY more comfortable shooting the ball and his stroke looks way more smooth. Props to Brownell and him for working on his shot in the off-season.

- we are going to struggle against big teams this year. We got destroyed on the boards last night. We really need middlebrooks to be a competent back up to PJ Hall. When PJ is out of the game, we are really going to struggle rebounding the ball

- I want to see a more fast paced offense than what we've typically seen from Brownell. We have a small team so we need to get out in transition. We are also starting 2 really quick PGs so there is no reason we shouldn't use our speed inn transition.

- Dawes is a beast and is going to have a great year. I love when he pointed at Brownell and brownell pointed to him after a made 3 in the second half. It's obvious they have a great relationship.

what about Collins? He played well last night. Can drive and pass well. Needs to shoot better from foul line.

To say Clemson is going to struggle against big teams...

Nov 10, 2021, 8:02 AM

might be the epitome of an understatement especially if the team doesn't learn to block-out better than they did last night.

I do agree with you assessment that playing more up-tempo and fast paced may be a huge key to the success of the team this year.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

indeed, interior defense is going to be an issue this season

lots of guys on this team that can get up the court quickly with the ball; i'm with you, i wish they would play at a faster pace - i very rarely see a sense of urgency in getting the ball in-bounds and up the court and i think this team would benefit from that

Great assessment. Loved watching Collins hussle. As Brad said, matchup problems in first half... But first game. Much more sense of urgency in 2nd half.

It'll take a few games to get his rotation. Many will, but it won't shock me if Friday is a nailbitter with Wofford. Hopefully Ian will give some quality minutes and add some scoring. Good game.

Both Schieffelin and Middlebrooks

are 10 fouls to give. Their role is to defend and rebound in short stretches. They have the ability to do that, any offense is a bonus.

Bohannon stat wise wasn't impressive but his size and defense was a big factor in the second half. He's going to be a jack of all trades, defending in one game, rebounding in another, scoring in another. He'll play a big all purpose role.

Collins is a savvy vet who knows how to score and defend. He's always struggled with FT's however.

Dawes and Tyson were exactly what we need them to be last night.

Wofford will be a real challenge. Excellent mid major program. They lost their stud PG to VaTech through the portal, but they recruit to their system as well as anyone.

Hall will need to step up and add offense. Honor will have a few games where he gets red hot, I hope. I'm hoping Ian Schieffelen can progress and become more of a consistent offense threat rather than just an added bonus. Jmho.

He may in time

but that won't be his primary role for this year
