Thoughts from last night

Sep 23, 2016, 12:57 PM

After attending the game last night I just cannot fathom this defense and Coach V letting Lamar Jackson have a big game. This is the best defensive line we have had in years imo and they were just a dominant force last night.

I really get the feel that we were doing just enough to get out of last night with a W on offense. We imposed out will in the first half.

I feel like Watson improved a little more in this game to get back to 2015 form but is still just a tick off but is close.

The two areas of concern I have is the offensive line and the run game. Gallman missed a lot of holes last night. We had too many third downs. If we are going to go back to the Natty and win it this time we have to get better at running the ball.

I also was not overly impressed with the play calling. Too many shots down the field on 3rd and 3-5. We refused to go in the middle of the field passing the ball. The few times we did we had success.

I love Dabo. I really do but I was so upset at him when he didn't go for it on 4th and 1 when we are driving. For some reason as great as he is we can not just kill opponents when we have them down for the count.

All in all I give the whole team a B+ last night. I might change my opinion after this weekends game but right now my prediction for next week is...

28-24 Clemson

Good post. I agree with most of your assessment but would point out that we controlled the edges on defense and the middle so we were successful in stopping their O by in large. We will do a very similar thing to L'ville. With 90 and 42 in the middle they will be forced to the edges manned by Bryant etc. With our depth we will wear them down. I agree we've got a way to go on O but candidly I would prefer to have our D operating at the level it is because we can control the game with it and not so much with O.

agree with the middle of the field. I guess some of it has to do with Renfrow being out, but we need to exploit the field between the hash lines in order to open up the edge. Even the out pass to Williams in the end zone was a bit of a risk being we were moving the ball so well in the first half. Quite a few passes Watson would like to have back as well: a wide open Overton in the end zone and a couple sideline passes thrown into the turf. It's like a golf swing, if you're not committed, it won't end up great..just need to stay focused.
