Play calling

One issue may be...if you watch this year Dabo seems to be more involved in the play-calling.......talking between every play now to the coaches. Didn't do as much of that last year. He needs to leave them alone. ????

They are still hiding it. It is to be released later this season in limited edition. All part of the master plan.

What are we talking about here?
I thought the first couple games Deshaun was doing a very poor job attacking the middle. After about the second quarter of the Louisville he found his deep ball and his strut and his numbers have been very comparable to, or better than, last year. He torched NC State for 378 yards and accounted for 3 TD's...that's pretty durn good. The pick-six was ugly but that was also a weird situation with a guy lurking where a guy wouldn't ordinarily be. You don't normally see a "robber" sitting two yards off the LOS like that; the cover guy was way out of position and got a gift, but make no mistake, that was a Forest Gump-type pick-six where the wrong thing ended up working out perfectly for the guy. Shrug and move on.
We're also doing a very good running the ball again...when Wayne Gallman is healthy. He's rushed 90 times for 489 (5.4 per) and 5 TD's, which puts him, over the course of a possible 15-game season, right about on pace for where he was last year or pretty durn close...keep in mind Gallman barely played against SC State, and got two carries against NC State before they took him out with that helmet-to-helmet hit, so he's really only played 5 of the first 7 games, so he could have as many as 8 remaining. Gallman's backups are, frankly, not great, but we're fine running the ball as long as we have Wayne.
NC State almost beat us because we got a perfect storm of turnovers and an uncharacteristic weakness at the LOS. But we still accumulated just shy of 500 total yards of offense and moved the ball effectively; we just kept not cashing on on opportunities.
"Playcalling" was fine. Execution...less so.

Yes, you do - maybe a few more yards deeper - when pass routes/lanes become predictable. It's actually fairly often that a DE is dropped into that area and we are pretty good at it. I forget which play/game it was last year that we did the exact same thing and got the pick.
