I think it fair to say DJ is a good QB. He suffered from overconfidence entering the season, Mechanics that were still a WIP, (which was bad coaching), terrible Oline play, and inconsistency at receiver. I think too many people are writing this kid off too soon, I think we will all be pleasantly surprised this year with even modest improvements at Oline and receiver. That is not to say Klubick may not beat him out at some point, but he is more than a good QB that most teams would love to have on their roster.

Spot on. Hard to believe that what DJ did as a true

freshman, which was extremely impressive when pressed into duty, was a fluke or some kind of abberation. And those who have since downplayed it, claiming it wasn't that great, simply don't know what they are talking about. He was fantastic, especially for a true freshman, over those few games. He was not nearly the same player last year, for various reasons, but he is a talented QB who, if he returns to form, can take us far.

I'm with you, but not as sold. We blame oline play, and it

wasn't great, but by the end of the year we were lining up with two backs and running over people. We were doing that because we could, but couldn't throw. So it's not the oline's fault.
Receiver was an issue, for sure. I dont think anyone would disagree that Grisham has been underwhelming in coaching and recruiting. We are no longer WRU. I know, injuries. Okay, new year. If this isn't better this year, something needs a change.
Anyway, it might not all be DJ's fault for the QB play, but imo most of it was. He was fat, unmotivated, slow, inaccurate, and uncommunicative. One has to point to the previous year to find one factor that indicates any potential. I don't see losing 20 pounds taking the next-to-worst QB in the ACC to star status. If we don't see Cade pretty quick we're in trouble, imo. But I am hoping you are right and I'm wrong. We want the same things, after all, don't we?

The O’line run blocked pretty well all year.

It was pass blocking that was abysmal.
Also, DJ had a broken finger on his throwing hand along with a bad knee.
I want our QB to be whoever is the best, but ignoring what others said here to form an opinion as well as the aforementioned is fake news.

I put some of it on Dj, but our wr play last year was terrible also. If you take away half the drops his numbers would go up to an average qb. We got spoiled with Deshuan and Trevor two of the best qbs in clemson history. But remember they also were throwing the ball to Mike Williams, Hunter Renfrow, Tee Higgins, Amari Rogders just to name a few. Now tell me who DJ was throwing to. Zero wr drafted from clemson last year. I’ll put some of that on DJ but most of it was on them. Maybe he looked like a superstar his freshman year was because he was throwing to nfl receivers. I remember some of the amazing catches Williams, Higgins and Renfrow made to make their qbs look good. So if our wr room don’t improve this year neither qb is going to shine.

DJ was SLOW last year, not just physically, but mentally also. His decision making wasn’t the best. I think he has the talent. We’ve seen glimpses of what he can do. Hopefully he comes out with more confidence and takes control.

if he doesn't develop quickly and take the reigns this year, a great Clemson defense with 3 potential top-10 picks will be wasted.

That's how I see it MoCity ... The coaches can coach-speak all spring and summer, it's the talking season. But the players can see in practice every day which QB is more mobile and more accurate. And soon Clemson alum, fans and the general public will see as well. I am pulling for the QB who can get the other 21 Clemson starters the most wins. Maybe that will be some sort of split QB rotation. I would hate to see this talented 2022 Defense lose a shot at the playoffs because the Offense lays a big egg.
