This was not on Tony Elliott, DJU did not execute…

Sep 5, 2021, 1:16 PM

I just finished re-watching the first two quarters and there are open WRs and TEs all over the field, but DJU is not seeing them. He’s determining his target pre-snap and trying to force it to them while other options are open. Even on the pick 6… Ross is open if DJU hits him earlier in the slant but he waits too long and allows Ross to run his route into the DB. Each of the attached screenshots resulted in an incomplete pass (I could only attach 3).

After that first batted down pass, he realized he probably can’t throw over the middle since he can’t put touch on the ball and can only send a rifle shot. So a wide open man in the middle is wasted.

What planet are you living on? Yes the famous California QB is overrated and not as cool and collected as we were told BUT Tony needs to go… still coaching from 2015 … he has no imagination and can’t communicate with the Quarterback…And I’m pretty sure he had no clue how to play against the Georgia defense…And I’m a Clemson fan… Dabo better wake up!

This loss was on the offensive coaches Where was our tempo we use to in the past to wear down good defenses like Alabama Since it was obvious their defensive line was far superior to our O line where was the eye candy window dressing and extra tight end blockers Chad Morris brought to us an offense that helped us overcome talent on the other side but we have gotten away from that These offensive coaches can not think on their feet like Chad could Why did we not bring DJ out a series to help settle him down Yes this is on the offensive coach calling and scheming for this game and yes DJ in his third start seemed not ready for the moment I remember when Trevor went int the Ga Tec game when things were going down hill for Kelly Bryant and he looked ready as a freshman for the moment D J has the tools but evidently he is a different kind of kid and it is going to take longer before he gets comfortable By the way whoever called 3 straight passes at the 5 yard line should resign in shame Why not put your big boy tight ends in as blockers and run your 250 lb QB No creativity in play calling We may miss Jeff Scott more than we thought

With 9:30 to go in the 4th and 1st and goal at the 6, whoever was responsible for those 3 play calls should never be allowed to get near another headset

I’m sorry but you are wrong.

Sep 5, 2021, 2:15 PM

Our playcalling, pace, and scheme have been garbage for the last few years. Great QB ftom Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence have covered up for a lot of sins in our OL and scheme. Jeff Scott nor Tony Elliott is a great OC. Sorry, just a fact!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You don’t know the definition of “fact”…

Sep 6, 2021, 10:33 AM

And that’s a fact.

Yep, and more than once the receiver threw up his arms and/or shook their head in disgust. But I think both can be true. Just so used to dw4 and TL making the right read.

He couldn't see them because of atrocious o-line play

Sep 5, 2021, 4:55 PM

That's partly because we have terrible coaching at the o-line position but also that Tony couldn't get them into plays to negate the pressure. Simply throwing WR screens against a team with speed like Georgia is not going to cut it and that's the only attempt at an answer that I saw.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Disagree, he’s just not making the right read…

And holding the ball waiting for his own predetermined target to get open.

I agree with Cool Breeze that DJ didn’t work through any progression on a lot of his plays. You could see him lock in on one option and often times miss other better options. Several times when he had enough time - if you watch the replay it’s easy to see this at least 6-10 times in the game.

However, we get first & goal from the 6 in the 4th qtr and TE calls 3 straight pass plays, with the last being 5 wide? That’s garbage play calling. Lack of tempo and slowing down any semblance of hurry up when we got a first down, that’s on the coaches too- even if the coaches were pushing for it in game and the players screwed it up, didn’t practice enough then. Our play calling was atrocious. We even got bailed out a few times getting calls (ex: PI on Ross where we throw out of the end zone on first down) for plays that shouldn’t have moved the ball forward at all.

Personally, I don’t understand why some posters on here are trying to make this a binary this not that critique of the offense. O-Line, DJ, bad play calling, poor tempo, WRs out of sync - you could prob list 8-10 things wrong with the current state of Clemson’s offense, all of which need to be fixed by the coaches. Coaches recruited these guys and if they can’t have a game plan and develop them it’s on the coaches first. C minus? C’mon man. We all saw the game. I question the value of inflating the grade publicly even if they’re giving the offense an F minus in private.

I think he checked down once but I saw the game only once.

Sep 6, 2021, 10:24 AM

Imo, he didn't seem to have much time but the critical factor in his performance was between the ears. His mind got wrong when his right knee got bashed in the first quarter. He was in a pocket and got blasted just above the knee, should have been a 10 or 15 yrd person penalty but wasn't called. Honestly, I didn't think he would get up.

From there out he saw ghost and couldn't function.

If we had tackled a QB in the pocket with a lick at the knees our guy would have been on the bench with Venables down his throat and we would have been backed up a long way.

meant to say 'checked down more than once...'

Georgia successfully did to DJ what we try to do to other teams QBs They knocked his hat off early and he was done for the rest of the game They had him in their pocket However when you really need it go back to the person who called the last play that won a National Chamber with 1 second left - Jeff Scott

If DJU is not executing, it is on Coach Elliott

Sep 6, 2021, 11:14 AM

To fix it - adjust the game plan. Maybe move the pocket, maybe swap in a mobile, scrambling QB.

Why did we keep trying to run up the middle on UGA? That is on Coach TE

We won off of generational QBs in the past few years These QBs called the game for us Now when the Off Cord is back calling the plays and the QB is just following orders you see what happened Bring back the Chad
