This team isn't special?

Oct 24, 2012, 2:52 PM

I can get frustrated and get down on the team but the bottom line is Dabo IS building the program up and this is a special team in the fact that look how young it is. We started more freshman last year than any team than Texas. The d has been making strides and the offense even when it struggles is more potent than any offense we've ever had. We are 6-1 and Death Valley is becoming what it was. When was the last time we went 11-0 at home? Let go of the 81' team and the Ford era. Football has evolved since then and as fans we need to enjoy the wins when they come. I challenge anyone to tell me this isn't a special team. Have you been watching us the past ten years? I guess the gamecrotches are unbeatable too huh?

There are things that look good, for sure. But we still suffer from inconsistent O-line play. And we still blow leads, turn the ball over, and get beat when things don't go perfectly. (Not as much this year because we haven't played anyone)

But we're not that young. I'm tired of hearing it. Most of our "young" guys are RS sophomores, which means they've been in the program for 3 years. We have mostly juniors and seniors on the 2 deep.

And Dabo's been here for 4 years now...how long does it take to build a program up?

And the Gamecocks are not unbeatable. But you can't play soft up front to beat them --- you have to do what LSU and FLA did.

If you don't think we're better off now than we were 4 years

ago, then you need to have your head examined. We're setting records, accumulating wins, just one a championship, and remain a respected, ranked program.

In answer to your question, "how long does it take to build up a program." The answer is A LONG TIME! Since the hiring of Tommy Bowden, we've been on a long road to restoring this program to elite status. We're not there yet, but we're closer than we've ever been!

GO TIGERS!!!

winning out will make it special........

Oct 24, 2012, 3:07 PM [ in reply to If you don't think we're better off now than we were 4 years ]

#1 b/c that means we FINALLY beat USC

#2 b/c that means we didn't lose to somebody we "shouldn't"

Let's face it EVERY YEAR....including the dabo era we have lost to teams we shouldn't have. Losing to Wake, Duke, Maryland, NCST, OR USC would not be special NOR acceptable

It is too early to tell if it is a special team

This team is special...and so is the coaching staff...

Oct 24, 2012, 3:05 PM

It has been fun to watch this staff and the team grow right before our eyes over the past couple of years. I like the leaders of this team. I like especially like the leadership of Tajh Boyd. He is a Clemson Tiger through and through.

This seems to be a team filled with young men of character. Yes, the bottom line is always winning...but winning with a group of young men you can be proud of is even more special.

Am I the only one who remembers the 5 double-digit losses (4 of them blowouts), losing to our rival, getting blown out in the bowl game, and playing questionable defense?

I guess we all have different perspectives on what "special" entails.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

no you're not the only one..........

Oct 24, 2012, 3:20 PM

we've accomplished a lot of things since dabo has taken over.......and IMO he's "on his way" and slowly but surely turning the corner, but I can't label anything special until we

A. Stop getting our teeth kicked in by the gamecocks
B. Stop losing to inferior teams

if somehow we pull off 11-1 this year...........then that's considered special IMO

Re: no you're not the only one..........

Oct 24, 2012, 3:23 PM

I can agree with that.

And I would say we were special if all our losses last year had been close losses, and we hadn't blown the game against FSU.

Not quite ready yet, but we'll get there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, nothing special about 4 losses. It was nice, but not

Oct 24, 2012, 4:32 PM

special. It is hard to have a special season that doesn't end with a new crystal football in the trophy case.

Yes those things happened

Oct 24, 2012, 3:47 PM [ in reply to Re: This team is special...and so is the coaching staff... ]

but they all happened last year. Please tell me what it has to do with this year's team being special? We may not win out and we may not have a special season, but we won by 21 last weekend and played our worst offensive game. We are a team that runs on offense so that is saying something to win like that. That's what special teams do. They win when what they are good at isn't working.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure..."special" may be an overstatement..........

Oct 24, 2012, 4:20 PM

we're doing better in the conference, but VaTech and BC definitely down from where they were with Bowden. Doing much worse vs SC, but they are better than with Bowden. I think we are at least a little better off than with Bowden and probably trending better. Beating SC this year would be huge even if we slip up on ONE game elsewhere. 11-1 would be special and even 10-2 with victory over SC would still be special in my mind, but all of that is yet to be determined.
