Just Got "walked" from My Hotel in Charlotte

Aug 27, 2021, 9:42 AM

We booked 2 rooms at the City Center Marriott several months ago. Got a call this morning claiming that ALL downtown hotels got way overbooked due to a glitch in their system. Not just Marriott hotels, but all of them she claimed. Anybody else having this issue?

a room for an event weekend. They always lie about it being a "glitch" in the system.

There really does need to be an investigation and class action lawsuit against these Hotels.

I feel bad for you.

Totally legit. All hotels from totally different companies

Who have totally different computer software all have the same glitch on the same weekend.

It is called the "forgot to gouge" glitch. You can book right now if you want to stay 3 nights at $400 a night.

This sounds eerily familiar.

Remember the Seinfeld episode where he reserved a rental car, only to be told at the counter that they didn’t have a car for him?

I'm at Marriott Courtyard with a good rate. But with Marriott gold - hopefully good to go.

seem to remember a similar "glitch" at some Clemson hotels for the TX-A&M game a couple years back.

A Fun Follow Up Trick in This Case

Aug 27, 2021, 10:23 AM

Is the day of checkout call your credit card company and refuse the charge for the hotel they walked you to. Claim this was not the hotel you reserved and provide your original confirmation receipt. State they wrongly billed you and you refuse the charge. When they call your original hotel they won't be able to substantiate the bill. It usually takes 6 months to a year for them to unscrew and your bill worst case will be delayed and often forgotten.

I am part of a wedding there this weekend and the entire wedding block of rooms(20+ Rooms at the Marriott City Center) got walked… so you are not alone… we have had these rooms booked since the beginning of the year… we were told they had to make accommodations for their diamond preferred members….

Marriott Titanium and Ambassador levels have 48 hour guaranteed reservations. They also have Guest Compensation amounts if the hotel is unable to fulfill the reservation. The compensation amount is a lot less than what they can sell the room for on Saturday night. So you are going to have some high level Marriott Bonvoy members also being walked.

Is this your wedding?

What thoughtless out-of-touch person gets married in the fall when Clemson plays that day?

Wow, rookie mistake I hope.

Only wedding I would be at is if my daughter was getting married. She has already made the comment that it will not be during football season. Raised her right!

Not our wedding, we know better! We planned our wedding around football season, haha… husband was not happy and has reminded the groom of his discontentment every day for the past year and half haha

Where did they 'walk' your reservation to?***

For the wedding party, direct through Marriott… moved us to a different Marriott about a 20 minute drive away… not horrible, but lost convenience of being walking distance to all wedding activities…

I am really upset for you. I am trying to understand how bad this is. Did you work with a Marriott employee at the hotel to block out the rooms?

Go visit their lobby restroom after a 24 hour binge on Mexican Food. Put about 10-12 big wads of TP in the bowl and keep adding until most of the water is absorbed. Let loose the deuce and flush. Let the fun begin.

That sucks and I’m sorry to hear it. If I were you I’d take a look at Air B&B before the weekend gets any closer. From the look of it there are still a few houses close to downtown for decent prices. I hope you’re able to fine a nice place to stay on such short notice.

probably paid almost double what you would have paid. It is a dirty trick for them to guarantee the most money per room. Leaves you out in the cold so to speak. Hopefully, you can find another place to stay for the game.

If they can overbook, they do

Aug 30, 2021, 11:41 PM

Lots of people cancel. Most of the time, it works out so the hotel has zero to a few vacancies. Sometimes, they guess wrong and don't get enough cancellations to balance it all out. Restaurants work the same way - for 20 tables, they will take reservations for 25.
