This loss hurt so bad because it was self inflicted

Nov 28, 2022, 12:11 PM

Dabo was upset for the same reason, goodness gracious we had every chance in the world to win this game and we messed our orange britches.

Fumbles that were just basic tucking the ball in. Everyone was trying to make something happen and got really sloppy.

Blocking was good for two plays & then two offensive lineman/RB/TE would blow their basic blocking assignments.

DJ never saw but 1 blitz coming his way. WR’s dropped balls. DJ was way off target and slow to make decisions. Never looked to Shipley out of the backfield and he was open.

RB’s missed blocks, fumbles and stumbles.

It was like the football team was drugged or something. The field position from their punter was horrible everytime.

Yup. Poorly executed gameplan and poorly executed play for 80% of the game. It's mind blowing we had even one of those games this year, let alone two now. This team is so poorly coached in the fundamentals it's insane. After the Syracuse game, you'd think ball security would be prioritized in practice and harped to death. It wasn't apparently and we have been a turnover machine since in every single game. I even said before the SCar game, that if we don't turn it over, we would win by 2-3 TD's. I still stand on the fact I would've been right if that happened.

We only get this chance once a year (to beat the chickens). Really sad to blow it.

Especially frustrating was that Shipley looked pretty good at pass blocking (for perhaps his first time ever).

The OL blocking was known to be at risk when Marcus Tate was ruled out (after his knee injury during the Miami game).

My biggest beef with Streeter was that he didn't seem to factor in the pass-pro risk that was a near certainty with Mitchell Mayes (good player, but not nearly as good as Marcus Tate) playing all snaps.

Pocket was nearly certain to not being as stable, but yet slow developing pass plays were called too often.

Given that most of our WRs have 'separation anxiety,' and that our staff surely had seen enough film of S.Carolina's fast / good coverage DBs (which is the strength of their dubious defense), I'm frustrated that Streeter didn't adjust the play calling to have quicker plays or for more creative dump-off options.

Despite all that, we all saw that the loss was due to a litany of self-inflicted wounds. We could have survived and won if even one of those 'litany categories' had not happened. But they all happened, and we lost a close game to an inferior opponent.

We still had a chance to win with about 2 minutes left UNTIL that last fumble. All we needed was 20-25 yds and we’re in Potters range. Of course, getting that would have been a problem but GOSH, I wish we would have had that opportunity.
