I love watching my son and his team play baseball

Apr 13, 2022, 11:05 AM

but they are in a tournament this week and have had games Sat, Mon, Tues, another one tonight, and will play tomorrow and possibly Friday.

Good thing they have plenty of pitching. But night games every night make for a middle-aged guy like me dragging the next morning.

This is too much, honestly.

These kids are going to be burned out on baseball. Not to mention their arms, not even addressing the pitchers.

This isn't the norm thankfully. A Spring Break tourney

sandwiched in the middle of the regular season, but yes, in this age of school ball, travel ball, showcase ball, etc kids are getting burned out or injured a lot more than in the past.

How old is your kid?

I got really burned out on baseball in High School playing Summer Leagues and School Ball. My parents were not about that Travel Ball life. I just cannot see how they will last keeping their interest up.

He's 16. This is high school ball.

He will play this summer on a team that is only playing a few tournaments and doing a couple of scout days. The days of travel ball are over thankfully.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Spring Break Tournaments. We played

one in Fort Mill against local teams and some far away teams. Upper Saint Claire was one of the teams we played, beat them. They were loaded and came down in a fancy bus with fancy equipment. One year we made it to the finals but used all our arms. Greenr got to pitch that game against a team from Miami. They spoke Spanish and beat the everliving SHIT out of us. I think I walked 2 and gave up a 3-run homerun in facing 3 batters when the game was well in hand. That was the ONLY time I pitched in High School. Apparently Coach Kiggins was right, I shouldn't try pitching.
