team is akin to saying Brad Brownell is an ACC-caliber basketball coach surrounded by bad basketball players.

Not sure if DJ is a NFL QB or not, but the available talent he had surrounding him last year (meaning healthy and on the field) was nowhere near the talent that was on the field with him in his limited duty as a Freshman. If (and that 2 letter word is big in this sentence) Shipley, Pace, Ngata, EJ, etc, all stay healthy for the most part of this season and DJ still looks like he did for all but about 1/2 a game last year, then we know it's not the talent (or lack thereof) around him that's the problem.

Perhaps, but talent is indifferent to a dude

sailing passes 10 years over a receivers head's, or throwing screen passes at a RB's feet, or not recognizing a collapsing pocket until he's on the ground, or not able to go through progressions past the first option, or *always* making the wrong decision on a zone read. There's soooo much wrong that was all completely internal to DJ.

But in his arguably best game (a loss at ND) he was bailed out by Rogers and Powell who was playing out of his mind that game.
You can still some of his future bad habits perhaps before there was much film of it for opposing coaches.

*always* making the wrong decision on a zone read
Yep. And I think our offense began to get better last season when we started executing more designed run and pass plays instead of RPO. Taking the decision-making process away from DJU seemed to allow him to conentrate a tad more on actually throwing the ball to his target. And having the RB stable working well helped.

Let's like saying just run the ball all the time so DJ won't have to think.

How much better our receivers will become when a more accurate and mobile QB ... say like Cade Klubnik ... is inserted into the starting lineup.
Swinney and new OC will have to decide what game to pull that string to maintain Clemson's chance of making the 2022 CFB playoff.

But for a good portion of the year, he was surrounded by 4*s, for the most part. Significantly more 4*s than our opponent's QB had when they took the field; statement of fact in EVERY game but the opener-

DJU is not an NFL caliber quarterback. He may not even be the best quarterback in the ACC but he certainly does not play for a bad Clemson team.

heard, Brown-L is a VERY well respected, soothsayer of X's and O's, fine ACC basketball coach.
I think that is similar to all the Coot fans wanting us to keep Dabo Swinney forever, while they were in their Five Bomb winning streak. Poll them now, and you would get a decidedly different answer.

Time will tell. I don't think we were a bad team against Georgia but against NC State and Pitt we were not good at best. If our line and receivers are healthy, be patient.

An argument of that sort might be made against someone like Georgia, but there's no reason DJ should look like the worst QB in the ACC against pretty much any other team we played last season. I totally agree that the talent wasn't there from the previous season but act like the talent on the field was so bad the entire offense ceased to be able to do anything is a big stretch.

round pick, and to me, he was better QB than DJ - at least what I have seen to date on the field. Not talking about "potential" which may or may not emerge.

Brownell is bad, but DJ in in a whone other class of bad. Brownell is average mediocre. DJ is one of the worst power 5 QB in the game. Maybe it was injuries. Whatever it was, he was horrid last year.

The verdict is still out on DJ. I am waiting until the end of this season to have a final opinion on him. He has certainly handled himself on and off of the field with class.

A very bad offense. Worse than Rob Spence’s statistically
We couldn’t muster a running game until, what, game 8?
