Anybody else think Liz Cheney could wind up president?

Liz Cheney's making a risky bet, but she could win it. Bigly. Political winds shift a ton in four years.
She has to win a primary challenge in Wyoming in a year and a half, but she could - she has deep, deep pockets, a lot of very powerful and influential friends, and oh yeah, she can now walk into CNN, MSNBC, and any of the Big Three networks and get all the good pub she wants. Not only is this a golden ticket for her running roughshod over a local primary race in Wyoming in 2022, it'll likely bring out Dems by the bushel looking to save her (though I suspect they may regret it, more on that in a second.)
Again, Cheney can get whatever she wants from the mainstream media now, because they've grudgingly admitted she has those rarest of qualities: "authenticity", "courage", and "principles."
Whoops. You guys done effed up large now. 'Cause you fellas done made that chick legit. And again, she can now stroll into any studio, anytime, anywhere, and get at least a civil interview where she can remind them "back when I single-handedly stood up to Donald Trump and they tried to drum me out of the party...."
Now consider the following factoids....
1) The Manhattan DA is leaning all over Trump Org CFO Allen Weisselberg, and he's about to give them everything. And all it takes is one - repeat (1) felony conviction, and Donald Trump can never, ever again run for president. At that point, whatever hold he had over the party pops like a soap bubble.
...and...
2) Biden's enduring popularity, I strongly suspect, is only based on having a non-viable Republican challenger. Biden has zero cross-party appeal. Cheney, on the other hand, has the ability to walk into CNN/MSNBC, or any of the Big Three news studios...and get whatever she wants. And they will never, ever be able to convince the nation she's a threat to democracy because she specifically defended the nation from Donald Trump's threat to our democracy. Those words don't come back.
Put Liz Cheney up against Joe Biden in 2024, and she absolutely wipes the floor with him. It won't be close. He has no defense against her, any more than Donald really had any against Joe. It's kind of like the Spy taking out the General in Stratego.
Just sayin'.

The thing is, that legal house of cards really is about to collapse on Trump.
The piranha are circling on him, big-time. There's like, 29 different cases going on him right now. Several of them carry potential felony charges, and any felony hit immediately DQ's him as a presidential candidate.
The second that happens, he becomes a has-been, and immediately becomes a sideshow act. Nothing becomes less relevant than an ex-president. Even Donald Trump.
The second they aren't held back by fear of him, there's going to be a hard knee-jerk reaction the other way, too, as the party seeks to "redefine" itself heading into 2024. My guess is they start looking to make themselves a whole lot less Trumpy and a whole lot more appealing to the mainstream because there's an acre of votes there in the middle just begging to be scooped up, and they can get them, if the party's willing to be inclusive, fiscally sensible, plain-spoken, and not, well, racist, aggressive, scary, loony-tunes, and well, Trumpy.
A GOP united behind Liz Cheney - especially if a Biden economy was sputtering - would cruise to power in 2024. I think it'd look a whole lot like what happened with Reagan/Carter in '80, actually.

sure are taking a long time to get through the court process. Its almost like there is no case behind the accusations. We were told that almost immediately after departing the white house he would be trucked up to court in NYC for Felony charges.

Dude, it's bad. Like, as bad as bad gets for him.
They're about to turn the CFO of Trump Org, and Guiliani is about to go down for acting as an unregistered foreign agent. The two people closest to Trump - and thus are those most likely to have compromising dirt on him - are about to be charged with crimes that could send them to prison, and could compel them to spill whatever they have on Trump to keep them out of jail. This is only slightly more than 100+ days after Trump left office and a new AG was appointed just a couple weeks ago.
Stuff is moving very quickly, and Trump's legal hot seat is as hot as hot gets. I know people can't quite believe it because he used his office as president to stiff-arm everything that came at him for four years...but he's not president anymore, and the roof's literally about to cave in.
It's coming at him from everywhere now. The fact that they seem to have Allen Weisselberg would be particularly worrying if I was Trump...it's as bad as Greenberg was for Matt Gaetz. (Maybe worse.)

Does he?
He never actually listens to them. Or pays them, for that matter.
Cohen was his lawyer. Guiliani was his lawyer. Remind me again who these "high-priced" lawyers he has at his beck and call are again? Putting together a competent legal defense has always been one of his abiding bugaboos. Now that he's Citizen Trump again, that's going to be a big problem for him, going forwards.

Well, I guess he could dazzle us with his amazing legal acumen.
Old dogs sometimes do indeed learn new tricks. My dog figured out how to unlatch the back gate just the other week, and she's like, seven years old.
So sure, there's hope.
But history tells us losing court cases in spectacular fashion is what he's best at because he does not listen to his lawyers (and his lawyers have been an increasing procession of goofballs lately anyhow) is not a sympathetic or prepared witness, and can't tell the truth to save his own life and that's really bad in a courtroom, so...yeah? I wouldn't like his odds, if I was a Vegas bookie.

The GOP base will never unite behind anyone that CNN and MSNBC promote as a “good conservative” because that just translates to “actually a globalist.” Neocons are DOA.

Yup. They "neocons" are assuredly out, in 2021.
What about in 2023? If Trump's gotten dinged with a felony conviction and can't run, do people go looking for Trump Next or does the GOP eyeball all those independent votes in the middle of America (that the Dems are in no way appealing to with their fiscal policies and Wokism) and say: hey, with a more inclusive, less crazy, more moderate party, we walk away with 55% of the vote and both chambers of Congress in the next election, easy?
As people here have pointed out, history doesn't repeat but it sure does rhyme sometimes, and there's more than passing parallels between Biden and Carter. The GOP just needs to find itself another Ronald Reagan.
Liz Cheney isn't a Reagan, but she'll remind more than a few people of a Margaret Thatcher, and that could be more than good enough.
Again, it could be totally moot. Cheney may not even make it past the Wyoming primary next year. But if she does, she could make it a whole lot further than that, depending on the headwinds she catches, you know?

DeSantis does not have access to the middle, though.
He's too Trumpy. That's kind of the problem. All these people prison-snuggling with Trump right now are going to wind up painted with the same brush...and all they get access to is conservative media. DeSantis cannot walk into CNN/MSNBC and convince them he's anything but Trump Next. They'll just put the goat horns on his head and keep playing the same song, you know how they do.
Unfortunately, they've already put the Badge of All-American Courage on Cheney...and it's too late now to take that back. Like I said, they may end up wishing they hadn't.
Cheney is the one who might could be able to walk back and forth between Fox and CNN. Not many candidates can do that. And again, the GOP - especially the RNC! - has been known to think tactically, on occasion. Just saying. And you'd better believe if the RNC warms to her, so too will Rupert Murdoch. He and Margaret Thatcher had themselves a torrid little love affair back in the day; he'll have his Fox viewers all a-flutter over themselves if he decides She's The One.

any Republican nominee. DeSantis has Trump policy (which is popular when divorced from Trump). It’s irrelevant anyway as Cheney can’t win the primary unless it’s rigged.

CNN and MSNBC give “access to the middle.”
The only reason Cheney can walk in is because she’s all too happy to attack Republicans.
Nobody in the middle watches far left MSNBC, and almost nobody at all watches CNN.

You'll probably win that bet. But I could see you losing it.
Sometimes those who tack against the wind are rewarded, you know? She's out there way away from the pack doing her own thing. Could get completely dropped...or maybe she read the wind right, too.

and anyone even closely aligning with Democrats wouldn't go near that level of conservative. She stands a better chance of staying in congress and taking the speaker position - though I would peg that at six years out at the earliest - the next set of mid-terms, not the one upcoming.
