I have a friend who posted this on Facebook. I wasn’t alive during this time, but was he really considered a Heisman Canidate?

But they still touted him as viable candidate even after the Coot faithful saw that his favorite receivers were on the opposing team's defenses.
I remember most of us here at the time scratching our heads as to why they kept pushing him as a possible winner when his performance was not even close to a Heisman.

"only" threw 6 INTs his injury shortened senior season. For his first three seasons, he was averaging ~2 INTs per GAME. He got progressively WORSE every year from frosh to junior, as far as INTs and QB rating. Now THAT's cycling out!

Every July they claim at least 1 or 2 of their players are clearly Heisman worthy. Usually by week 2 there's no more mention of it. I imagine Ellis was in the same boat.
