You’re right ellington was and is way underappreciated.
Can i just pick this whole team? Man, they were fun to watch. Shame they didn’t do anything in the postseason, because these guys deserve to be remembered. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XCfeExOYXnA

Will Swinney, started 5 years, scored from the toughest place on the field. Dabo has good genes!

I will go with Tyler Shatley. He last played in 2013 for Clemson and it still in the NFL at 31.

Tough to say

I know it's easy to say Renfrow but IMO Renfrow wasn't underrated - anyone who casually kept up with the Tigers would know that boy was a baller and his route running and ability to separate was sick -- those highlights of him tearing those Bama DBs up will always be some of my favorites to watch.
My personal picks based on when I started watching Clemson football.
Offense: Reggie Merriweather Defense: BJ Goodson
Some honorable mentions: Charone Peake, Jaron Brown, Tyler Grisham, Brandon Ford, Chad Diehl, Tig Willard, Michael Palmer
I tried to stick with "lesser" household names that were pretty good vs household names that were underrated because of NFL evaluations or obvious flaws (like Ben Bouleware or Skalski who were liabilities in coverage but were unquestioned leaders/heart and soul of the defense)

I agree about Ellington.

He was as good a running back as Spiller IMO. Their career rushing numbers were comparable.
Ellington: 621 rushes, 3436 yards, 5.5 yards per carry, 33 rushing TDs.
Spiller: 591 rushes, 3547 yards, 5.9 yards per carry, 32 rushing TDs.
Both were good receivers out of the backfield too, although I would give the edge to CJ in that area. We all know what a good returner CJ was too.

Things didn't end well for Terry Smith

which is probably why he is rarely mentioned anymore like other players from the 90s like Priester and Dawkins. But he was #5 all time for Clemson wide receivers in career yards and #9 in receptions.
I also remember the TD catch vs FSU in 1992 in their first year in the ACC that put us up 20-17 in the 4th quarter only for FSU to score late and win 24-20 on their way to beating Clemson 11 straight. There was also the last second TD vs Kentucky in the Georgia Dome in the Peach Bowl for the win.

David Dunham.
I think Matt Ryan still has nightmares about his guy.
To name a few .. Deandre McDaniel , K’Von Wallace , Reggie Merriweather, DuWayne Coleman, Andre Branch, Kendall Joseph, Mario Goodrich , Skalski

I’ve been watching Clemson football since 76. I’ll say Deshaun Watson. No one since I’ve been watching played bigger and was more clutch when the stakes were highest. I remember reading a stat where his completion %, td’s etc, went up in the 4th quarter.
Underrated? Yes, bc however you rate him it’s not high enough. If Clemson had to win a game for your life, who else would you pick to play quarterback?

Reggie Merriweather
Duane Coleman
CJ Gaddis
Aaron Kelly
James Davis
Those are a few that come to mind. Always had a lot of fun watching those folks. Some of them didn’t have the pieces around them and were just flat out football players.
