conference is worried about academics. They understand that the conference is an ATHLETIC conference and they operate it in that manner.
I have yet to read about ACC gatherings to discuss matters of academia. And, I don't think the debate teams are bound to debate in-conference schools, nor are they scheduled by the ACC office.
The ACC Commissioner's Office has ZERO authority over any conference member President, Dean, or professor. And, no diploma granted by any school in the ACC denotes membership in the ACC.
A degree from Clemson University would carry the same amount of prestige if Clemson is a member of the ACC, SEC, The Big Whatever, or an Independent.

I agree but the conference has a coalition of UVA, UNC, Duke, Wake and GaTech who feel differently and will never vote to align/merge with the SEC under any circumstances. ND would feel the same way.
Personally, I would never want to be a part of the upper Midwest BIG. Plus, the Midwest/Great Lakes are losing population at a great pace while the Mid Atlantic/SE's population is booming.
