Derrick Henry as a QB or he would have beaten out Watson for the Davey O'Brian award too! Since eSECpn has already anointed Derrick Henry as the Heisman winner I see no reason to watch on Saturday plus who would be able to understand him, as articulate as he ISNT, he must be majoring in Ebonics at that great bastion of academics University of Alabama. Based on the fact that Henry's GPA is just below that of their most illustrious graduate, Forest Gump, if he flops at football he should be able to work on a shrimp boat.

Living 20 miles from Yulee, I can assure you he is just as good of a person as an athlete. We will show him on the field that DW4 is a force.

I agree. Henry is a great young man. My niece knows him well and graduated with him. Even though he enrolled early at Alabama, he went back to walk (on crutches at that) with his class. How many big time athletes would do that?
I lived in Yulee from 1979-1982. Still have a bunch of family in the area. When Henry was being recruited I thought it was pretty cool. Back when I was there, Yulee was one stop light at Hwy 17 and A1A. And Yulee kids actually went to Fernandina Beach for HS (10-12).

I've not heard him speak. I just don't care enough to watch those interviews. I'll say this, some of these boys are products of broken homes, parents who struggle to read but work hard to make a living. They spend their energy trying to feed, clothe and house their children. The parents don't have time to learn and they can't be much help teaching their children.
The public schools and our culture has failed some of these kids by allowing them to be lazy. They dumb down classwork and expectations to keep the federal funding flowing. It's a ### shame how much damage good intentions and an overgrown government run educational system is doing to minorities.
I don't think I could ever insult a kid's heritage. Besides being divisive it's downright embarrassing to think speech and articulation patterns are a measure of intelligence. That's exactly what I hate about some yankees. They actually believe that southerners are dumb because we speak more slowly than they. Some also view politeness as a weakness and evidence of vulnerability.

From what I'm told, Henry comes from a strong family background, with his grandmother being the glue. You make a great point. Many of these kids we watch on Saturdays and eventually Sundays come from very humble, uneducated environments. Doesn't make them undeserving, and it's awesome to see how some handle the success and change in financial status.

Your attack on Henry seems a little harsh. He did have a record breaking season. And how he talks, while in front of cameras, with a national audience, and no doubt nervous is irrelevant.
