TE may still end up being a hot head coaching commodity

When AD's do a deeper dive at how many WRs we have out and how inconsistent/ inaccurate DJU has been and yet we could still get to 10 wins, this year may end up looking like a net positive for Elliot.
FLA and LSU are all open jobs you can take and win at a high level. If they offer, he likely has to jump at it.

Couldn’t blame any coach for going to either, they are great jobs.

I can't imagine he would ever get those jobs but he

might get one of the jobs that opens when those jobs get filled. Ole Miss might be open soon, for example.

Wow, another voice of reason on this site. Thank you but that being said, an LSU or Florida job will not go to a college coordinator.

True, but I would argue that being the top assistant at Alabama

is viewed better than being the second best assistant at Clemson, especially since I don’t recall Kirby’s unit regressing significantly his last year there.

TE and BV were Broyles award winners in back to back years

Everyone knows he's more than just our "2nd best assistant". His credentials up to this point as an assistant probably exceeds Smart when he was an assistant. And again their are extenuating circumstances for the decline in the offense. People are already saying that this year may be Dabo's best coaching job. I'd suspect that Elliot would get the same grace from Athletic Directors with open HC positions.

For the two obvious reasons which you have pointed out, and also for a big reason which you had not listed (i.e., O-Line injuries / lack of continuity for 80% of the season), the college football world knows that T.Elliott is a fine O-Coordinator. They also know that T.E. is an excellent recruiter.
Other T.E. attributes which are important for being a head coach are that he is (1)personable, (2) super smart, and (3) self-controlled [i.e., not likely to pop off publicly at his players ala Mike Leach).
Not that this next factor is a big deal in today's spend-thrift environment, but T.E. would be cheap when compared to the now-big-time young coaches like Ryan Day or Lane Kiffin.
Whether or not the 'politics' of hiring T.Elliott are in place for him to get a big name job like LSU, Florida, Auburn (i.e., if Auburn's trustees had any sense they'd fire B.Harsin), is another matter.
If Clemson is lucky, then we'll get one more O-Coordinator season from T.Elliott before he takes a good HC job.

TE did a great job this past Saturday against WF. I was not surprise at Clemson winning. Clawson stated before the game that his team was facing a big challenge. I don't think he was surprised by Clemson's aggressiveness from the get go. Team did a great job executing a great game plan. Go Tigers.

Wonder if TE performance as OC was meant to be a trial run for a head coaching job. Perhaps he was putting on a show for all of the schools that are in search a new head coach. Why hasn’t he called games this way all season? Just a thought.
