Photo Evidence Off-Sides

offsides.jpg(285.4 K)

I analyzed the photo in AutoCAD and believe he was clearly off-sides. This is my first post but hope it will help put all this controversy to bed. Undisputed Champs! Go Tigers!

I watched the replay several times and it's like the ref kept an eye on that UNC player and was ready to throw the flag.

Yeah, I think it's illegal formation.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's not an illegal formation

Dec 6, 2015, 7:46 AM [ in reply to Re: Photo Evidence Off-Sides ]

the only 2 rules on kickoff formations are:
-at least 4 players of the kicking team must be on each side of the ball
-no player can be FURTHER than 5 yards behind the ball

Yes sir. I was screaming at the top of my voice last night the same thing when it happened.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The ball has already been kicked forward at that point

Dec 6, 2015, 3:25 AM

would have to move it back a few frames to be accurate at point of contact

Look at the official ...

Dec 6, 2015, 3:32 AM

You can see the official concentrating hard crouched down looking straight down the line. He threw the flag immediately without hesitation.

If one fingernail is beyond the line in his estimation, then it's an off sides violation.

There was too much at stake for him to overlook even the tiniest infraction on that crucial play.

It was a close call ... but he made the correct call.

Re: Look at the official ...

Dec 6, 2015, 3:48 AM

Exactly. The point is that his hand is right at the line, not a couple of yards back, and the ref is straddling the line to make the call. Just like a close throw to first- he's got that call. No controversy or Gross error here.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They made plenty of bad calls

Dec 6, 2015, 4:34 AM

Both ways

Interested to see a shot from a few frames earlier before the ball was kicked. His hand could even be on the way back here and was further before the kick.

Go eat breakfast and forget about the BOTCHED call we got

Their biggest lead was 3 and ours was 19

If they would've tied us DW4 would've gone and won it in OT anyways.

It was not offsides. They got it wrong. Let them talk about it. It's s moot point now

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We're all tired of controversy. It wasn't a botched call

Dec 6, 2015, 11:19 AM

It was a close call, but a correct one.

I agree that if they get the on sides kick, they still have to do what Notre Dame couldn't do just to tie the game.

But, I'm tired of media and fans providing fuel for controversy.

Close calls happen every game and this was a close one, but it was close enough that the official gets the benefit of the integrity of his expert opinion since he was perfectly positioned to make the decision and did it without hesitation.

The official was in perfect position to make the call. Standing on the line. at field level. Honestly I will take his opinion on the offsides over any television replay.
