Derion Kendrick

May 2, 2022, 11:44 PM

Let's say DK doesn't get released from the team a year ago. What are the odds that he moves back over to WR given the injuries last year? I feel like there would have been a conversation.

They don’t have to be granted releases

Anymore. They just enter the portal

The portal giveth and the portal taketh away.

Unless you’re Clemson, then the portal only taketh away.

“Released” in this context

I think the Op was referencing that DK was asked to leave the team, not released per his own request.

I hope DK all the success in the world but would have loved to see him chose a different path over the past two years.

He could have helped at WR in 2020 as well as 2021.***

Coaches made a huge mistake moving him from wide receiver to CB. He would have made a great slot his last two years. J. Ross should have never played slot and only boundary. Everyone except our coaches saw this. His mistake in the Georgia game may have cost us that game.

You mean the LSU game.***

I think his abilities as a WR are being over estimated simply because he is physically talented. Just being able to run fast and jump high doesn't make you a good WR. Blocking, route technique, and catching techniques (high point, boxing out, etc.) all are extremely important and us fans simply don't have enough of a sample size to judge his level...but the coaches do...and they made the move.

I think he was a disrupting person . Good player but not a team guy. Will probably be that way or worse when he gets all that cash in his pocket

Wrong board. This is unrelated to Clemson football. This should be posted to a board that discusses people falling asleep in their parked car with a gun in their lap.

I doubt an NFL prospect would want to switch positions in their last season.

I feel he wanted to change positions seeing that would probably have been his best chance to make it to the next level. At least that’s what I had always thought. Until last year our WR corp had been solid so again figuring he went to not only a position of need but believed he could develop into a good corner and take that position to the next level.

Re: Derion Kendrick / if 'no to weed' ... then he'd been WR

May 3, 2022, 2:41 PM

Fully agree with you.

Even though DK proved in 2019 that he was not a great receiver, had he not chosen "weed for me" over "we the team," then he would have most likely moved to WR last season .

DK's drops of the pre-2021 season made DK among the team's leaders in butterfingered WR drops.

Compared to our WRs of the 2021 season, though, DK would have looked like Nuk Hopkins in comparison.

... and, despite DK being one of our two top CBs before start of 2021 season, we still had excellent CB depth for 2021 season without DK. Therefore, DK's move to WR wouldn't have hurt our D very much.
