Players opting out of bowl games.

Coaches opt out of bowl games to prepare for their future every year. Why can't players opt out of bowl games to prepare for their future?

I think his point was people bashing the kids for doing it and the new trend of it when no one says anything about the coaches doing the same.

I don't like any of this, but this is what we have. I used to bash the players, but now it's obvious many of the coaches are no more loyal to their schools than anyone else. It's all about the $$$$$$$$$.

But we do bash the coaches that do this. Players and coaches can do this, no problem, door is open for them to do so. But door is open for fans to have an opinion on the decisions made by players and coaches. For me, the less loyalty they show, the less respect I have. Pretty simple. No big deal. I’m not hiring n firing these guys, I’m just a dude on the interwebs.

for opting out of any bowl game if his team is not in the CFP.
But, really, if you think about it, using the excuse of "Preparing for the NFL Draft" as the excuse for opting out is kind of lame. If you think you are talented enough to play at the next level, then your play in every game up till now, was your audition. A more focused effort OFF the field ain't going to change your draft stock much. If it DOES, then you weren't giving it your best effort ON the field.
Opt out, and say that you just don't want to risk injury in a last, meaningless game, and I would respect that more.

Who was the kid at Notre Dame who tore his knee a few years back? He was projected to be a first-round pick and dropped significantly. All it takes is one prospect to lose his future for others to opt out.
I'm OK with it. Teammates and coaches understand, we can too.

I didn't say I liked it, I said I understand it. We're talking about life-changing money on the line for some of these players.
It's easy for me to say they should play when I'm not the one taking the risk with 7 or 8 figures on the table.

Not completely true.
The NFL does care about the measurables at the combine and those can be improved with training.
and once every other prospect is training for them, you are screwed if you aren't training for them.

Castaway nailed it.
A player’s resume is completed at this point of the season/career. One more bowl game is not going to impact a prospects Draft status.
What can impact it, even blow it up for better or worse is their combine results.
The combine results weigh heavily on a prospects final draft placement.
I think it’s smart for these players to opt out, hire a personal trainer and focus on improving their combine metrics.
It sux for fans, but a smart move for players who are looking to move onto the next level.

Combine. It seems patently unfair that three, sometimes four years of stellar play on tape can be undone by a poor showing there. Or, more often, the opposite happens, and teams fall in love with an underachieving player who suddenly posts a great 40 yard dash.
The Bears talking themselves into drafting Mitch Trubisky ahead of Deshaun Watson is a perfect example of draft mania. It's easy now to look back and say "What were they THINKING?" Trubisky obviously had a GREAT PR team working for him pre-draft. I'm not picking on him specifically, he was just the most recent case that came to mind.

I agree and disagree. I think if your team isn’t in the playoffs and you are a definite 1st or 2nd pick I can see not taken a chance on an injury. But 3rd round or lower I think you can make your draft stock go up . but the injury risk is there. But at the end of the day it is a business decision for each individual to make. Our opinion one way or the other don’t really matters. For me play the bowl but I do see the side

Not attacking, just asking ; at what point is it ok to quit your team? When you’re eliminated from national championship contention? Conference championship contention? When you see your name on a draft board? The third quarter when you’re down by 20?
I’d prefer everyone honor their commitment, including coaches.

I'd doubt many Clemson players will opt out of the bowl, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of our players with season ending injuries or who are day to day but never quite ready to play would be playing if we were still in the hunt for a national championship.
and I'm fine with that.
In a lot of ways, the bowl is prep for next year so I'm fine with players that are not coming back not playing in the bowl.

I expect Andrew Booth to opt out, and that’s fine. I’ve seen one mock draft that has him going in the first round. There may be a few others.

They’ve always been able to quit whenever they see fit. No one is being forced into any of this and no one is being sold false goods. When players agree to play for a university they understand what will be asked of them, including playing in bowl games. If they chose to quit on what they have previously agreed to do, that’s their choice. Same for coaches. I disagree with players opting out of Bowls, I disagree with coaches leaving their position before the season is over.
Being a coach is a job. Being a player is a job (let’s be honest). Do we begrudge people for moving companies or making career decisions they feel are best for them? Generally not, but we can certainly disagree with the way people execute those decisions.
