revelation to no one.
We were a better program for the most part up until about a dozen or so years ago and then they begin to catch us. For several years we were then even, and then about 3-4 years ago they vaulted ahead of us and there's no denying it.
Anyway, call me Captain Obvious I guess.

We were broke before Obama stepped foot in office. Of course he has made it much worse.
Back to baseball, I think it's time to move on from Jacklegg. Much like we did with Tommy. Thank him and move on. Even if he is great and all that, at this point where our athletics are with what's been going on with football against them, we need a culture shock in that clubhouse. I think it's starting to happen with football but baseball seems to be lacking in that department all around.

No, but neither does our baseball team. They just can't get over the hump against a team that finished 1st, 1st, and 2nd in the nation the last three years. Throwing the coach under the bus for that is ridiculous, especially when it is painfully obvious that South Carolina has made such a larger commitment to their baseball program than Clemson has. Jack's failing, if he has one, isn't on the field. It is in failing to convince the powers that be to respond accordingly when Carolina Stadium was announced.

So then what does facilities have to do anything? If our recruiting does suck and we have talent, why are facilities used as an excuse? Facilities only help recruiting.

Because we have a great coach and still recruit competitively but it is hard to recruit at the most elite level - much less shut other people out. South Carolina is a talent rich baseball state. What is Clemson's argument over SC for a recruit now. If they're not from a Clemson family it's a hard sell. It will also cost them more to come to Clemson.
Here are facility numbers iI pulled up yesterday. please tell me you think these investments mean nothing: We built Doug Kingsmore with a $1 million gift in 2004. FSU spent $12 million just 4 years later. Carolina spent $35 million on Carolina Stadium. These are not minor discrepancies. I know we've spent some more money - but not at the pace other schools are. Virginia dedicated their baseball stadium in 2002 then sunk another $4.5 million in less than 8 years later. North Carolina spent $29.5 million on an expansion in 2008. They spent a $1 million donation on the courtyard alone.

facilities show how important a school thinks a sport is. For the most part, the schools that spend the most win the most. That isn't universally true, but lack of spending pretty much guaratees you won't succeed.

and what's you're seeing from some of these posters today is why. I do donate to IPTAY (in fact, I more than doubled my contribution for 2013) and have made a contribution to the Doug Kingsmore project.

I think it's closer to twice that much. The stadium alone was almost $40 million. I know we've spent some money too, but it's not like Carolina Stadium is the only thing they've spent money on either.

It's not finished, yet. We're gonna spend another 5-10 million $$$ over the the next 3-5 years.

I don't think this has to be as big a problem as others seem to. It is more a matter of being proactive - which Clemson athletics does not have a great track record for. Carolina's indoor practice facility is gonna cost 50% more than ours. Do you think there is anything about it that will be substantially different than ours? Land value will also eat into a lot of that money in a facility war with Clemson. But Carolina Stadium was announced in 2007. They spent $35 million. We're gonna answer with $6 million 7 years later. That's playing from behind.

we've put MILLIONS into football at the expense of the rest of the programs...which is what we truly care about....log into Tnet on any day of the year and football dominates the discussion.

What has the amount of money spent by South Carolina have to do with Jack killing the program with his assistant coaching hires?

Virginia made huge improvements to their stadium and UNC built a new one. Spending money shows a dedication to the sport on the part of the institution. If a sport matters, then the school spends money on it. If it doesn't matter, then the school doesn't spend money. I think Clemson's prioritites the last few years are plenty obvious.
