coots on 93.3 don't get it

Especially coot nine who claims the nit is basketball for the handicap. He keeps claiming the winner of the nit is fighting to be the 65th best team in the country. For a guy who claims to be so smart this is Simply stupid. The ncaa doesn't pick the top 64 teams in the nation. It picks the winners of the conferences and then decides who are the best teams to fill the rest of the openings.
The nit is more like a bowl game. 2 teams play for the championship. The other 60 teams play for money , experience, and fun.
Add a fan you want to watch your team play. Post season play is a bonus which is why fans get excited.
It isn't that complicated.

when we were playing for the NIT titles under Dave Odom, this board was full of folks making fun of us even for winning it - calling us the 65th best team, etc....
and Gamecock fans were bragging about it as much as they could to pump up their own team- and how great the experience was- and if you are going to be in the NIT- you might as well try to win the entire thing, etc....
Fans are fans.
They are going to make fun of anything and everything and twist the logic around to make it work. So of course those fans are going to poke at Clemson for being in the position this time around.
Typical stuff from fans.

Either way is fine. But don't pretend this board wasn't full of posts making fun of the NIT when South Carolina won the thing.

It's not a "justification" as you call it. That's a red herring.
If a Clemson fan is going to post about how crazy Gamecock fans are by saying the winner of the NIT is the 65th best team - or whatever- then it's only appropriate to point out Clemson fans were saying the same thing when South Carolina was in the NIT.
It's the reality of the situation- it's what fan bases do.
