Why not go independent?

Has anyone ever considered this alternative?
We could pick the teams we want to play in each sport. Could make for some interesting schedules.
The NCAA does not have a rule that you have to be in a conference to win a National Championship in any sport.
Negotiate our own media rights.
If it does not work out we are not beholden to any conference and will be free to join any that are interested.
Just a thought.

Oh right. That worked brilliantly for South Carolina and the service academies. The reason it works for Notre Dame is because it is the Catholic flagship university in this country and has a billion alumni.

because they don't want La Tech/LSU games to broadcast. Once all the major conferences get forced to 9 con games,independents , like said above will be playing 8-10 cupcake games a year.
