What if Coach Elliot has already opened the playbook and this is basically it and he doesn't have much?

Really? The chapters left when Lawrence, Etienne, Rodgers and Powell. Look up their stats and tell us who on our roster can put up those numbers.

Point is, DJ was doing fine with the playbook from last year, and yes the loss of some good receivers would explain the lack of separation we are seeing downfield.

The playbook can only open as wide as the QB can handle. Hopefully a week off will help.

The screen pass to Pace that went for 35 yards was something we had not seen at all before. It is a ver6 effective weapon used against an over-aggressive defense. We get burned by it all the time. Doing it more could slow the defense and take some of the heavy pressure off if DJ.
The quick wide pitch to Mafah got him out into space for a nice gain. We need to work on perfecting that because the play depends on quickness and accuracy with the pitch. It worked great against BC.
The designed QB runs with Mafah as the lead blocker were very effective. DJ is not the quick twitch athlete that TL was, but give him a head of steam with some momentum and he’s a load. With the defense having to respect Mafah first as a ball carrier, facing him as the lead blocker makes for a tough situation for the defense.
