Said that most people don't tip on take out orders, and donated 888.88 to Drew Brees's charity.

For me, the point of ordering take-out is so I don't have to tip and pay $2.50 for every drink may family orders. I easily save $15.00 by ordering take out for my family.

order, cooks(which get a share of tips) are still preparing the food which has to be boxed which is more work than carrying a plate to the table and someone is still taking the payment. The only thing missing is refilling drinks. This would be a takeout from a set down restaurant, not a fast food joint.

There should be no expectation of a tip on a takeout order.

Any tip given at all on a takeout order is generous.

Regardless of your feelings on tipping on a takeout order the person who posted the receipt online should be fired. This shouldn't be so egregious in anyone's mind that Brees deserves that kind of attention for it.
I had a friend who was a waiter at an upscale restaurant in Newport, RI where the Celtics hold their preseason camp. This was the year after the Celtics won the championship and she waited on a table with Garnett, Allen, and Pierce and a few other guys. She said they had somewhere around a $2000 bill. Garnett picked up the bill and left her a $1000 tip, much higher than 20%, and thanked her on the way out.
The point of that story is that that shouldn't be expected just because you know someone has a lot of money. Do your job and do it well and maybe that will happen.

I always tip 10% on takeout. I assume the person that takes the take out order is a waitress/waiter and their time is worth something.

I usually tip about 10% on takeout orders but it's so they'll remember my face and I'll hopefully get good service/special attention the next time. I don't believe there's any social obligation to tip though, like there would be if I sat down to eat.

Seriously though, I used to be a server at Outback and I know that back then we didn't make any more per hour running the curbside takeout window. 2.13 an hour plus tips. I also know that I would work as hard doing that (most times) as I did waiting tables regularly.

They would be lucky to get a tip on a takeout order at all from me. I sometimes give them but not often. Tip good on sit downs, but not take out..

A few years ago when I was working as a server at a place, I remember the hostess making a comment to me about someone coming in to pick up an order and not tipping. At the time I didn't know any better and was confused why she was bothered by that.
When you do work in the restaurant you do kind of want to get a tip. Even a dollar is a nice touch.
With that said, if I had never worked in a restaurant, I would never had known or thought to tip for take out.
Now that I have had that experience I tip at least 20%. Darn, should never had worked the restaurant and kept my tips at 15% lol
The worse is when it is a European. They don't tip. Not their fault really as they don't know any better. In their country, tipping isn't required or hardly even done. But it sucks when they rack up a 200 dollar bill and you get nothing.
But probably the worse is bartending a Jewish bar mitzvah. These people have free booze all night long.
I remember I probably poured about 5,000 dollars worth of drinks one night in a two hour period at a Jewish wedding. I made 3 bucks in tips and the father of the bride, saw one of his guests give me the 3 bucks and said if I took another dollar he would come behind the bar and take care of me lol

The person who tweeted that is a real ###### because they made it appear like this was a normal restaurant order (if I'm not mistaken) instead of a takeout order.
If that was a sit down meal, then there's definitely something to be upset about. But this is ridiculous.
