Clemson spent $31 million on Littlejohn...

10 years ago but very little since (unless you count the new scoreboard installed this year). The practice facilities are inadequate (there's only one gym and it isn't really big enough in terms of floor space) and if the main arena is in use, like it often is, then both teams can't practice at the same time. The coaches' offices are across the street in Jervey, which makes meeting with players inconvenient. Remodeling Littlejohn is an option, but I don't think it's practical. To do the kind of rebuild Georgia Tech just finished would mean losing the use of the building for an entire school year and there's nowhere in Oconee, Pickens, or Anderson counties that could host an entire season of men's and women's basketball, not to mention things like graduation and the other events that are held there.

Plenty of space, there. You can wait to tear down Littlejohn AND it will tick off the people who currently park there for football games... It's a win-win-win.

During the 2003 renovation...

Clemson attempted to work out an arrangement with the Bi-Lo Center to serve as the temporary home for Clemson basketball. However, Bi-Lo Center Administrators believed they were Clemson's only real option and therefore wanted an exorbitant amount of money for the use of the facility not to mention 100% of the concession revenue. Clemson refused and ended-up using the Anderson Civic Center.
The BI-LO Center is now managed by the Greenville Arena District which is a political subdivision of the State of South Carolina. The nine members of the Board are nominated by County Council and appointed by the Governor of South Carolina.

If built, I don't think the new will be bigger

It will be smaller (around 8,000) with some bells and whistles that Littlejohn doesn't have. Littlejohn is almost 50 years old. It is time to upgrade and spend some money on basketball.

According to the discussion on WCCP yesterday the John Paul Jones Arena at VA is the nicest in the ACC. They spent over 130 million 7 or 8 years ago for a 14000 plus arena. If you look up their calendar of events they keep it busy with Rascal Flatts and numerous big names. If we build a new arena my concern is how big? And if it is about 8000 seats will it be attractive for big name entertainers? If we build it big enough to attract big acts then it will be hard to fill for basketball. It would be an interesting gamble.

Capacity is not the issue....

it's functionality.
Littlejohn is limited in its uses. Clemson needs more of a multi-use facility.
If the decision is made to completely rebuild, I doubt capacity would be increased. However, I do think some elements would be added that would create an ongoing revenue stream like suites and banquet facilities.
Frankly, Littlejohn should have been completely leveled and rebuilt back in 2003 rather than spending $30 million + on renovations.
