Will we see Bresee play more on the edge next year?

Feb 3, 2022, 8:00 AM

With all of the depth that we have at DT, I have wondered if we will see Bresee play more outside next year. It's not that we don't have a lot of talent at DE, as well, but I hate the idea of Bresee being off the field even if I would love to see Ruke, Reuben and the rest of the crew get more playing time. Bresee is capable of playing both positions, and it would be one more thing that opposing teams have to game plan for. Does anyone else think that we will see him all over the Dline next season?

We have XT, KJ, Mascoll, and Murphy at DE. Then you have Denhoff and Patterson coming off their workout years, so hopefully they will be ready to contribute.

So, no, I don't think we'll be seeing much of Bresee on the edge.

Agree with you Mr. Trotsky.

(I've heard that your being demise in Mexico City was greatly exaggerated, and that you've got the market cornered on cabbage and beet tacos down there.)

AMLO and myself have been cooking up some solid policy proposals. We've been thinking about spending tax dollars on this Bitcoin dip.

I understand the talent at DE but I think in anything other than an obvious passing situation I would rather have Bresee out there. At DT we have Bresee, Davis, Ruke, ET, Tre Williams, Capehart, Page, and now Story. Out of Murphy, XT, Henry, Mascoll, Denhoff, Patterson, Greg Williams, and Swint, which ones would you pick over Bresee if it was a choice of DE only? I'm big and ugly so maybe it's just me wanting to see more big, ugly guys on the field. In seriousness, though I admit that the top end of our DE group is very good, I don't have the confidence in it's depth. I do at DT.

I like your points

I think Bresee could cross train and be an absolute force at DE on running downs but I don’t see them taking snaps from the DE group.

I guess I am not thinking of it as much as taking snaps from the DE group, as making it so that more snaps are available for some of the DT's. We don't have a DT that I don't think has NFL potential, and I want to see them around Clemson as long as possible, rather than looking for greener pastures.

Me playing Devil's advocate on my own idea, I would wonder how that could affect the decisions of the DE's lower on the depth chart. We could very well lose the entire 2 deep next year, and I am not as confident in the ones further down the line at the moment. Playing time for them would help them develop for down the road. I guess figuring out how to get playing time for everybody is a good problem to have. I'm just glad that it's Eason, Conn and Goodwin's problem and not mine.

There is no doubt in my mind...

unless Bryan has lingering effects from the injury.

Even with Myles Murphy locking up one side, the needs at DE vs DT will necessitate Bryan playing outside a good amount of the time.

I don't think we will have any issues at DE with all the players/ talent we have there. I like Breese size and strength coming from the DT position. You figure we have Murphy and a multiple set of choices coming from the other end position and then have to factor in Breese crashing in from one of the DT positions and then have Davis or Ruke coming from the other DT spot. Good luck dealing with that nightmare. Keep Breese in the middle reeking havoc.
