Killing radicals in other countries trying to implement and/or save democracy...I think its time those countries return the favor...

you'll notice that none of us on here own any beach front property in Kuwait or South Korea or France or Panama or North Africa or Iraq or Japan..... we go, we help, some give all they have, the rest come back to stand in the shadow of the big green lady and wait until they're called again.

And, when the protesters start showing up outside his house I am sure he will be the first to want one of those "lily pads"

Not Clemson related.

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

Actually 1994, given Clemson's proud, LONG HISTORY

What was the biggest blunder in US history? Was it the war in Iraq or Vietnam? In my lifetime it was Iraq, but I didn't live through the Vietnam days.

tell that to the South Koreans

Also, since you mentioned it, I am looking out for what is best for Americans. I am not really that interested in what a South Korean thinks. I would be more interested in the 40k dead Americans. I wonder what Joe21 thinks. He was there. That would be interested what a Korean Vet like Joe thinks in retrospect.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

if you were worried about 40k Americans dead

Aug 26, 2020, 10:19 AM

you'd be bitching about Opioids and the other rampant drug use in our "social Liberal society" that has effectively destabilized a whole country to our South.

And oh by the by, that's 40k per year just on opioids - almost as much as Vietnam in 12 full years.

And certainly my point was that for those not historically or factually inclined, our venture in South Korea is the counterpoint to the idea that Vietnam was inherently a bad move. Why? Because the same Chi-Comm/Russian alliance was pushed back to the 38th parallel and defeated there several years before we got involved in Vietnam. It was the operation of the War in Nam that was inherently flawed, not necessarily the idea that aggressive Communism needed to be stopped. Just ask Hong Kong or Taiwan, Tibet or the Uighurs.

As for asking Joe21, won't need to. My stepfather, now passed, actually served in Korea, and I had both a Cousin and an Uncle who fought in Vietnam; the Uncle having enough good fortune and savvy to have survived two tours as a flipping helicopter pilot. I certainly can't speak for them, but I do get good knowledge from them.

Best.

Re: if you were worried about 40k Americans dead

Drug use is an individual choice. People will always use drugs. By the way, conservative and liberals use and sell drugs. Anyway, It doesn't belong in the same conversation. As far as Korea, my Grandpa fought in it. He has passed though and didn't like to talk about. My Uncle was in Nam. He thought that was the biggest debacle and blunder in his lifetime. He is still angry about that war. I didn't live through that era, so I can't talking about it first hand even from a civilian standpoint. Anyway, I am going with Iraq as the biggest blunder in modern US history in my lifetime. It was idiotic right out of the gate. Anyway, we are where are.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you Liberals are soooooo misguided... here's your "choice"

Aug 26, 2020, 11:48 AM

From the Web pages of the Ferguson/St. Louis, MO Prosecutor, Wesley Bell, his ideas about drug use:

"Missouri has the fastest growing female prison population: Over 75% are drug related. 75% of Missouri female prison admissions were for 120-day drug treatment, long-term drug programs, and violations of probation or parole technical violations (primarily substance abuse related violations)."

"76% of people held in local jails suffer from both mental health problems and substance use disorders. Extensive research from the Bureau of Justice Statistics focuses on the increasing public health crisis in our jails."

"Only 17% of people in jail are provided with drug treatment & those programs have the lowest recovery rates. Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law examines the inadequacy of resources for substance abuse."

https://www.stlouiscountyprosecutingattorney.com/prosecutor-led-diversion

My brother the cop opines: "80% or more of crime has some form of drug use involved."

That's just a toe in the water on the resources being used in this country to make up for your "personal choice".

You're searching for the biggest failure of this country? Try 1960's Social Liberalism - it's simply an abject failure in every way.

Re: you Liberals are soooooo misguided... here's your "choice"

Aug 26, 2020, 11:56 AM

Of course most people are in jail for something drug related. We need to change the laws. I have known probably a couple of dozen people that have been arrested for drugs and maybe a dozen that have served some time. The war on drugs was always misguided. They aren't stopping the drugs from getting here and they never will. They aren't stopping the demand and they never will. That will grow as the population grows. It's na complex issue. They have death penalty for drugs in Indonesia. Drugs are everywhere there. I don't what the answer is, but locking so many people up handing out felonies is not that answer. A felony is a life sentence generally.

As long as you understand cause and effect - reducing sentences or even legalizing drugs will hurt those in poverty the worst. Crime and drug use go hand in hand - legal or not.

It's a tough problem indeed, but if an objective is to up the standard of living for those in poor and violent neighborhoods having more drugs there is going in the wrong direction. And, more drugs there also happens with reduced policing.

Re: Since we spent $20+ trillion and 15+ years at war

Aug 26, 2020, 10:57 AM

What Im saying here is the images and videos of these riots and demonstrations going on around this beautiful country look just like the war torn images and videos we saw from the middle eastern countries. The US is in civil unrest and its being fueled by radical citizens with no respect for law or ORDER. I think its high time these radicals be dealt with the same way our Great US Soldiers dealt with radical militias in foreign countries.

about guerrilla warfare tactics.

This is as much of an ideological battle, can't be won with aggressive authoritarian tactics. It'll just spiral out of control.

A lot of this is the unfortunate reality of massive unemployment. When we put these people back to work, I guarantee you that much of this chaos will disappear.
