I will probably never go to Tropical Grille again. The food is OK, but there is zero service. You wait in line, give your order and get a number, fill your own drink, carry your food to the table, get your own napkins & utensils, etc. No different from McDonald's. But when you place your order and give them a credit card, they flip around that little screen and it has choices for 0, 15%, 20% & 25% tip. They make you select one. And the guy is standing there looking down at it, staring a hole through it... almost daring you to click on zero.
whadafuq? Tip for what? ... having the A/C turned on? If you want a couple extra bucks per meal, just bump up the price and be done with it. It's like they're trying to intimidate you into a tip.
BTW, I am a very generous tipper. I get alerts from my bank all the time to verify the tip amount for dinner or drinks, because I exceed whatever amount they have set up to be flagged as possible fraud. So it's not that I'm cheap. Quite the contrary. I just don't appreciate how some places go about it nowadays, when it's basically just a notch above "fast food quality" and you get zero service. OK I'm done.

Yep.
It's pretty good, I've been a few times. But the Tip Thang always pizzes me off. I'm done with them. It's the principle.
Also, the list of who expects a tip keeps getting longer. Used to be just waitresses, bartenders and bellhops. Then the lady who cuts your hair joined the club. And they're not subtle - "and how much for a gratuity?" as though it were mandatory and expected. A friend of mine moved a while back... his wife told him the reason the movers were still hanging around is because he hadn't tipped them yet.
What? Where do you draw the line? Do mechanics deserve a tip? What about programmer analysts? LOL

of the time. I find that a lot of the time it's the real hip places that do it too. Any place that deemed it reasonable to buy 4 ipads to use as cash registers probably has a system like that and don't get my tip unless they're preparing me something special or cleaning up after me.

Went to the Smoke Pit in Concord yesterday. Not your typical run down bbq join with good stuff, but a spruced up place that charges $8 for a sandwich and fries.
But it was completely worth it. I wish I had eaten my meal before tipping so I could have given a better tip.

It's at the window. They have them at convenient stores too. It's laughable. Then again, real wages haven't goneup in so many years that people are getting desperate. Anyway, I also don't like being asked to donate at the market at the register either. I just want to be left alone to do what I came there for.
