Hyundai's finished dropping the new engine in our Tucson.

Jun 7, 2022, 4:28 PM

They've had it two months but have paid for a rental. I own two Hyundais, both bought certifed used with the 10 year, 100k warranty. Both have received new engines at 70-80k miles. This should probably caution me against buying another but getting a new engine for free is a bit of a selling point. With most manufacturer's warranties we'd have been screwed with both. The 2012 is about to go out of warranty, but the engine will stay under warranty for a while.

we went through 2 engines on my Jag before 50k miles

my understanding is that the parts and labor would have exceeded $30k each time.

I've always wondered if those 100K warranties were good or

had some sneaky fine print. Apparently not, two new engines. But at 70-80K... what killed em?

A drunk will run a STOP sign, but a stoner will wait for it to turn green.

Honestly, it's what makes Genesis even more enticing.

What luxury car gives you a 10yr./100k warranty?

drunk at the putt putt.

They're going broke replacing engines.

My 2012 Accent was apparently just a singular manufacturing defect and was not part of any larger issue. My 2016 Tucson is part of a wide issue over multiple vehicles and years involving multiple law suits. Ours was fine one second and just seized with no warning and there was no oil in the engine. (The oil and engine lights came on after it seized.) No idea where the oil went. No leaks, no oils on the driveway, no oil on the engine, and no smoke in the exhaust or burning smell. They say the engine burned it up, but I'm not sure how an engine burns 4 quarts of oil in 3000 miles.

Zettner's Hyundai caught on fire back when that was their issue.

The warranty is why I bought them.

They do fight the warranty a bit on engine replacements, make sure you can account for oil changes. I was missing a few on both but had the recent ones. I could have hunted down the missing ones (had the oil changed while getting a tire repaired out of town), but they weren't that bad.

The 10/100k is non-transferrable so a lot of non-original owners are pissed. But because I bought both from Hyundai they transferred (for a fee). Both of mine had been previously leased.

about TWO new engines. I suspect they will end that kind of warranty soon.....

Put short short of 120k on my Hyundai Sonata when I had it.

What totaled it was a hailstorm. Could have kept it but State Farm was very generous.
