The view from the pulpit on Wake Forest ...

Nov 7, 2014, 11:28 AM

First, I can't think of a place I have more of a love-hate relationship with than Wake Forest. It's really a cool (last night, COLD) place to watch a game. Not a bad seat, fans are generally cool, great parking. But dang if the stadium doesn't seem to lull Clemson teams to sleep and make these games more of an adventure than they need to be.

That said, last night was less of a win and more of a triumph. The guys overcame some bone-headed decisions and some of the worst officiating since Helen Keller hung up her striped shirt to post yet another double-digit win over an unranked foe.

A few take-aways from the wind-swept tundra last night:

* Cole, thank you. This has not been easy, given the continued pain in your shoulder (anyone notice how drooped that shoulder was on the sideline after getting that uncalled late hit out of bounds?) the challenges of an injured patch-work O Line, and the specter of DW hovering like Marley's Ghost behind you the whole time. Yet, here we are 4-0 after you took the reins. Folks may feel somehow cheated that the offense wasn't clicking this whole time, but I feel history will show this was a true turning point at Clemson. We held serve on offense and brought the defense back. Much of the credit goes to you.

* Robert, I have a handful of Scripture verses for you to choose from about perseverance when you are wrongfully accused. It was a clean hit, textbook, the sort of hit y'all dream about. If it isn't overturned by the ACC front office this week, save the rage and deliver it in equal parts on GTech and UCS. They deserve it.

* Tyshon, welcome back to the fight. This time, I know our side will win. We have many battles with your name on them in the future.

* Defense ... what can I say but: 0-10 on third down conversions over the last three periods, five sacks and 13 tackles for loss. Wake had three plays set up that worked us over early. Nothing worked for them later. Adjustments and controlled fury did the rest for us.

* Fans, another great showing, we had twice the number that Wake fans had in the howling wind last night.

Overall, it wasn't the rout we hoped for, but it was another win on the road. One more time, one more win and we're home at last.

Better days ahead.

Good Points Rev...

We may not have put up as many points as many had hoped, but it was a strong win in the face of adversity (injuries, refs, cobwebs, etc.). The defense made the necessary adjustments and more than made up for the misfires in the first quarter. Two years ago, the best tackle I saw during the game was when the "fan" streaked across the field and was tackled by police after pushing the officer…"Don't Taze Me Bro!"

Now the focus shifts to GTech! Rest up team and I hope Smith gets a chance for another crushing blow to Paul Johnson's scowl!

GO TIGERS, BEAT THE BEES!!

Re: I noticed Cole rotating his shoulder much of last night.

He looked uncomfortable but played admirably. Get our guys some rest, give Coach V time to gameplan, and let's paint Bobby Dodd orange...like normal. Go Tigers!
