Year 5 of me doing my weekly public service to anybody out there who believes there will be more than 4 undefeated teams at the end of the year vying for a place in the College Football Playoffs. It won’t happen, despite each year worry and angst are abound with people wondering if we will have a decision to make among undefeated teams come playoff time!!
The inevitable will happen….it’s called “the thinning of the herd” and I’ll post it each Sunday to help ease those of you that have this annual “fear”
Recap Of Last Week As expected, there was plenty of guaranteed thinning this past week as the herd faced one the most impactful single Saturday in recent memory. Gone from the ranks of unbeaten were Alabama, Penn State, Southern Cal, Oklahoma State, and James Madison. That brings the herd of unbeaten down into single digits at 9. And it’s just mid-October.
Next Week: Guaranteed Thinning Will Take Place Syracuse travels to Clemson, marking the first time two teams with at least six wins and no losses have faced each other in the 81-season history of Clemson's Death Valley.
"Upset Alert” Ole Miss has to travel to Death Valley, Jr. to face LSU. The Bengal Tigers are not any good, but they are better than Auburn, who gave the Rebels all they wanted this past week.
UCLA travels to Nike Corporate headquarters to face Oregon, a team that has not lost since it was embarrassed in Atlanta vs. UGA in week 1.
Kansas State is 5-1, so TCU better be ready in Amon Carter Stadium on Saturday.
Will Keep Winning....For Now Georgia and Michigan have a bye week.
Ohio State hosts Iowa….which I almost put on “Upset Alert” as it is a nooner in the Horsehoe.
Tennessee has to come down from their high of beating Bama, but they luck out and get UT Martin, which should help any worries of a letdown loss.
Final Thoughts: While there is just one guaranteed thinning to take place (Clemson vs. Syracuse), I suspect at least one other will be swooped up and we will be down to 7 by the time the sun rises on October 23rd.
