When he heard a player curse during practice he would make them stop and say " sugar sugar sugar " TRUE

Nice. Too bad he couldn't coach football. Give me Danny Ford's "colorful" vocabulary any day.

I'm old and the thing I remember most is a group of people, supposedly Clemson fans but not, booing Coach Hatfield and his wife when they got off the plane and the booing never stopped. The Hatfields chose not to live in Clemson, imagine that when the people who greeted them were so nice....not! And they got criticized for that, too. His tenure was probably Clemson's darkest athletic hour, and I was ashamed to be a Clemson fan. Being the man he is, I'm sure he has forgiven those people but I doubt he has forgotten.

As far as football coaches went.....he was a great preacher.

My preacher is a great man also, but I don't want him coaching the tigers.

Hatfield lied when he said he resigned. He could have resigned or been fired.
