The team needs to follow their shots, and work the ball inside FIRST and …

Mar 14, 2023, 1:17 PM

crash the boards as a team with say just one maybe two guys hanging back to prevent fast breaks and PRESS and ….

THIS has been my greatest frustration with the team. Fundemental stuff we don’t do but other teams do, good teams

I don’t get it. It’s like golf. If you go to the practice range and over and over you hit the ball badly you STOP, and determine why you are hitting the ball badly. You either take a couple lessons and try to fix it or at least, experiment with your swing, watch videos and experiment because you don’t want to hit the ball badly over and over else, your just getting muscle memory on how to hit the ball badly.

I really like my golf analogy. What say you ?

Agreed. 14th in the league in offensive rebounds.

Golf analogy good. If you're hitting it bad on the range, you're just practicing doing it incorrectly. The better thing (for me) is always an outside perspective. I tried not to experiment. Again, what do I know? may make a bad thing worse. Getting someone to watch me has always helped. I was standing too far away from the ball. To me, it felt right. I hit two shots and the guy watching said move up on it. I kept creeping up until he said stop. It felt like I was standing on top of it. The moral of this little story is that If it doesn't feel any different, you haven't changed anything.

So you are saying we need a new coach?

Maybe even one that makes in game adjustments?

Interesting take.

Most people here agree.

Neff either doesn't or couldn't find anyone who wanted the job.

Take it how you will. We're not "crashing the boards". I would guess because they are coached to get back on defense. A case could be made for either strategy. When you have good shooters, crashing is not at the forefront of your game plan. But, as you say, in game adjustments should be there if they're not hitting.

No comment on Neff at this time. What did anyone expect him to say after a good year and post season play (such as it is)?

Do you shoot 90, yet give golfing tips to others on the golf course?

Follow your shot was popular coach-speak in the 50's & 60's when any shot taken outside of 12-feet was considered risky. No coach today would ever tell a shooter to "follow your shot". They might as well say "I made a mistake in recruiting you, you can't shoot, so follow your shot". That player is on the bench!

Duke does not recruit 4 & 5-star football players, but they can rebound with their 5-star basketball players. Clemson can't get 5-star basketball players, but they kick butt in football with their high-end recruits. Not many schools can have national powers in both sports.

I think Coach got all he could out of what he had. Clemson will look like a well-coached team to you with better players. Right?

No offense, but it is hard for one star or 5-star players to rebound when they are retreating to the other end of the court.

Nope, it how we use players vs what we have …

As for “modern philosophy” on basketball .. heck with that. It’s OK if a good shooter follows his shot. That shows he is not only a good shooter but also, a good basketball player. So ts all about 3’s and dunks, eh ? Wrong. Watch the GOOD teams, they do what I beseeched. As for the quality of our players, I will take 1-3,4 who play well as a team vs a group of prima Donna’s. Look, we have had 13 years of Church League basketball. If an approach’s results have been mediocre for 13 years, it’s time to change the approach.
