Watson on the offense: "There is never a perfect game"

Clemson's offense totaled just 19 points in Saturday's win over Auburn, but quarterback Deshaun Watson says he thinks the offense will respond this week and fix what needs to be fixed. Full Story »

I'm not sure it's appropriate to be asking Watson about

Sep 5, 2016, 1:53 PM

BJ's in an article... and forcing him to talk about them... sounds like a question @Francis Marion would ask.

also... we had an offensive penalty on the first play of the game.... what the hell kind of question was that?

Also, I think Legget (sp?) got a false start penalty after a time out.

OFFENSIVE PENALTY

There was an offensive penalty on Jordan Leggitt. He had a false start after Dabo chewed him out

We had a penalty on the first drive... So... Yeah...***

I'm not hearing an honest assessment from Watson.

Sep 5, 2016, 2:52 PM

His performance was far from "solid". I would rate it a C+. The ""+" is only because we won.
Many of his short passes were not crisp.
If Excellence is the Standard at Clemson, we were far from excellent - far from the par I would expect from players the caliber of a Heisman trophy candidate.
He should be pleased with the win, but he should have seen LOTS of things on film to make him mad at his performance. He should be glad we won, but MAD at how poorly we/he executed.
His acknowledgement of Scam Newton after the TD pass (and GREAT catch by Hunter Renfrow) makes me wonder if his head was in the game.
Maybe Watson needs to sit a few plays to shake him up.
Watson's body of work at Clemson has been excellent. But he needs to dial-up his intensity during the remaining games at Clemson.

I'm hoping that he is mad on the inside. That was NOT a Heisman performance at all. And he is fully capable of a Heisman performance every week. If he touches that rock Saturday, he needs to dial it up and give 100%. Maybe we need a travel rock.

Lol, take it easy man. Auburn has a good defense. Also, Watson has learned coach speak from the best, Dabo. I'm sure that he and the team look at the film and understand that they can be better. I'd venture to say way better, but you're not gonna hear that from Watson.

Shut up!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm sure he does not care that you think he is dishonest

He comes across to me as very genuine. He might not be a Tajh Boyd, but he is close. I predict that he will always give back to his community.

So I have a question for you. If Williams doesn't fumble and continues that drive, If Leggett catches the ball on 3rd down that went in and out of his hands that continues a drive. Williams also had 3 opportunities to catch the ball in the endzone. I'm not knocking on Williams he had a heck of a game. But if he catches those 3 DW4 has at least 3 TD passes and probably close to 400 yards passing at least. Are you still talking trash? Just saying...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If a few more of Watson's passes were intercepted,

Sep 5, 2016, 5:54 PM

which is entirely possible (some hit defenders in the hands), what would we all be saying now? What would Watson be saying?

I have bought into Dabo. I'm all in. Excellence is the standard. We have superior athletes and superior coaches. I saw a subpar performance from someone who should have been the best player on the field. I LOVE Deshaun Watson. I WANT him to win the Heisman. I WANT us to win the national championship this year. I appreciate and respect Watson's ability to stay COOL during tough situations. Maybe I just expect more from Watson than I saw Saturday. And I expect a bit of fire in his belly after reviewing film and seeing LOTS of mistakes. Surely the coaching staff saw the same mistakes we all saw. I liked the fire in Dabo after Jordan Leggett screwed up two plays in a row.

Wrong.......his performance was very solid. He understands

Sep 5, 2016, 4:34 PM [ in reply to I'm not hearing an honest assessment from Watson. ]

that wins are not always going to be pretty and that his job is not to please the media. I don't think our coaches called a particularly good game, but it was obvious that they were not going to let Watson beat them with his legs. Sometimes you have to give credit to the opponent.....particularly when they recruit the same players we do! If they find an offense, they are going to beat a lot of teams.

Just when I thought I've seen it all on TNET

Sep 5, 2016, 4:37 PM [ in reply to I'm not hearing an honest assessment from Watson. ]

you decide to go after possibly the best player to wear Orange for not giving 100% and even suggest that he needs to sit a few plays to "shake him up". I wish I could TD this more than once.

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

Re: One question is....

Sep 5, 2016, 9:25 PM

... when the game was over did anyone, players or coaches, have any regrets? If not then game well played. If yes, then why and what are you going to do not to have any for every game left? I know there will be plenty of comments from everyone on every game, including me, but what happened prior is gone and you can't get any of it back. Learn from the last play, learn from the last game, don't dwell but be sure what is coming next is your absolute best. NO REGRETS.
