The Syracuse AD is lobbying for 9 league games...

Dec 20, 2013, 4:31 PM

That's great if you're struggling to put 30k in the stands but a huge financial and competitive blow if you pack 80k in on a weekly basis like we do. Unless there's a significant trade-off of some kind, this would wallop the league's few football schools.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...

Dec 20, 2013, 4:37 PM

NO! We'll never schedule compelling out-of-conference match-ups if we agree to that and keep 7 home games. Yeah, we have SCar, but that'll be the only big OOC game every year. I hope we don't cave.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We could do it as long as 2 of our 3 non conf games are

Dec 20, 2013, 4:39 PM

Significant. I would rather play a 9th conf game rather than a sc state, citadel, furman, etc. I guess if we could still guarantee 7 home games I would be in favor of it.

Dec 20, 2013, 4:41 PM

I'm with you, but we won't do that because the athletic department is insists on having 7 home games every year. I wrote a long letter about the need to ditch one of our two cupcakes...

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's cute

He apparently has no clue about good ole southern border

Dec 20, 2013, 7:31 PM

rivalries like CU vs GT and good ole southern instate rivalries like CU/SCAR FSU/Miami UGA/GT. If he thinks he is going to interrupt these with a 9 game conf schedule and rotating cross division games he better think again. You knew what you were getting into when you joined the conference. Go back to new Mid American level conference (AAC) if you don't like it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not in favor of 9 league games, but I'm OK with rotating

opponents every year, without the stipulation of having to play everyone in our division. That way we'd play every other team in the conference at least every other year.

You could play every team in the Conference every other

year if people could just think "outside the box".

There is no reason to think that a Division has to be the same group of 7 teams every year.

The only thing that is important is that you look at your schedule at the beginning of the season and see that you have a clear and fair path (determined on the football field) at playing in the ACC-CG.

I get his point. Syracuse doesn't have the fan base or the

market nearby so they are at a disadvantage over many other ACC schools.

But in today's world, how much benefit do you actually get by simply being on a field in Boston, Atlanta, or Miami?? One of the big complaints lately has been how difficult it is to sell tickets to bowl games. And one of the factors that comes up often is how technology and the choices it gives have changed people's options so that just being there isn't as big a deal. So Cuse playing games that get better national attention is a bigger deal than just being in a stadium in Miami, for example. At least that's my opinion.

Re: I get his point. Syracuse doesn't have the fan base or the

Dec 20, 2013, 9:49 PM

I agree and the fact is they have trouble putting 35,000 people in the seats and expect the ACC top teams to listen to what they say in a serious way. Give me a break. When they sell out that 50,000 seat Dome it will be time to listen. Until then, they need to work in the trenches to dig up prospects to recruit.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Odds are with 9 games...

Dec 20, 2013, 4:52 PM

they could win three.

What Is His Deal???....Play Ball Or Leave The ACC

Dec 20, 2013, 4:57 PM

East Carolina would be a better rivalry in the Atlantic
Division anyway.

ECU and USF are huge football schools.

USF is the largest college in Florida.

I agree and told them politely the same thing on their site. They've been in the league for less than a year and expect us to give credence to what they say when they can't sell out their own place and have trouble recruiting in their own back yard.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Leave The ACC sounds okay with me.***

It' more an effort to rotate the 2 cross divisional games***

Dec 20, 2013, 4:59 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We will play 9 confrence games once

Dec 20, 2013, 5:21 PM

the ACC network is up and running. They will want more conference games to broadcast. Also, look for each team to play at least one Friday night game a year(Northern teams maybe more as HSF is on Saturdays there).Thursday nighters will be a thing of the past. The $$$ from the network would off set the loss of a cupcake home game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he wants us and the rest of the ACC...

Dec 20, 2013, 5:33 PM

to toughen up our schedules by eliminating potential cupcake games like Georgia, Florida, Southern Cal, Penn St., Alabama, etc.

Give me a break.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't want 9 game schedule...

Dec 20, 2013, 6:13 PM

But like the sound of mixing up the schedules. As long as we play FSU and GT every year, I don't care who else we play...

ZA

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why can't some teams play 9 games and others play 8?

Dec 20, 2013, 7:45 PM

Just play a round robin in your division with 2 or 3 cross divisional games (or Notre Dame). Let the team with the best DIVISIONAL record go to the ACC-CG.

Preserve the FSU vs Miami, CU vs GT, UNC vs NCST, and other natural rivalries. But other than that, just find a cross divisional opponent and play.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Note to Syracuse:

Dec 20, 2013, 7:50 PM

Make it to the ACC Championship game and you'll get number 9.

When SEC goes to 9 game schedule, ACC will follow suit.

Dec 20, 2013, 7:55 PM

SEC is eventually going to go to 9 games because the new playoff format puts some emphasis on strength of schedule. They do not want to play meaningful out of conference games for fear of being exposed.

Re: When SEC goes to 9 game schedule, ACC will follow suit.

Dec 21, 2013, 12:58 AM

probably right on that 1, but the sec can afford to get away with fewer ooc games b/c of their supposed 'superiority'. the acc can't.

bad enough we already lost future series w/ okst and ole miss b/c the league wanted to do the 9 game stuff when they added pitt & 'cuse. we go to 9 conference games you can kiss goodbye any dreams of seeing non-conference games like clemson-georgia, fsu-oklahoma, or vt-alabama again.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nine league games is a non-starter unless they add a game to

Dec 20, 2013, 9:33 PM

the overall schedule. I don't see them adding any games overall considering the playoff is already lengthening the season. Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and probabaly Virginia Tech would not vote for nine league games.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Id add Louisville a probably Wake to that with UK and Vandy***
